Larry was born to Donald and Darlene (Barber) Peterson on September 30, 1952, in Wessington Springs, SD. He attended rural Pleasant View school through eighth grade and high school in Wessington Springs graduating in 1970. He was active in FFA and Rodeo club. He attended and graduated from Mitchell Technical Institute with a degree in Auto Mechanics. He then returned to farm alongside his dad in Wessington Springs.
Larry met the love of his life, Mary Frances “Fran” Hines while attending high school. They were married on April 15, 1972, in Wessington Springs and resided in Jerauld County while farming. Larry and Fran were blessed with five children: Reina, Scott, Michelle, Leslie, and Ashley.
Larry spent his lifetime working on his ranch raising cattle and the feed needed for them.
He was an active member of Templeton UCC. While his kids were in school, he was actively involved in 4-H. His grandkids were his life. He enjoyed hunting with his kids and grandkids, attending rodeos, camping with friends and family, and attending auctions to find the perfect collectible. He enjoyed reminiscing with friends about their many crazy escapades! He always had a shirt with a pocket that held his endless supply of gum for the grandkids. He loved following them to their games, wrestling tourneys, plays, and concerts.
Thankful for sharing his life are his wife, Fran; daughter, Reina (Bernard) Ford of Wessington Springs, SD, son, Scott (Bobbi Joe) Peterson of Miller, SD, daughters, Michelle (Pierce Johnson) Sioux Falls, SD, Leslie (Kyle) Tanke Wessington Springs, SD, and Ashley Peterson, Sioux Falls, SD; twelve grandchildren: Coltin (Alyssa) Marquardt, Riley (Andrea) Marquardt, Kambrie Eik, Logan, Cora, Nolan, and Kallan Peterson, Grayden Peterson, Brooklyn Caffee, Myles and Mary Tanke; step grandson Ethan (Taica) Ford; great-grandchild: Daniel Marquardt and step-greatgrandchild, Aurora Olson; sisters, Donna (Wayne) Thompson of Pukwana, SD, Linda (Kelly) Uphoff of Woonsocket, SD, Dawn Stender of Custer, SD, and Lynelle (Ed) Schroeder of Wessington Springs, SD; brother-in-law, Mark Cashman of Wessington Springs; and numerous nephew and nieces.
