Larry Wangsness
June 1, 1961 ~ September 6, 2022
Larry Wangsness, 61, of Orient, passed away Tuesday September 6, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loved ones after battling lung cancer since February of 2021.
A celebration of life will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton with Pastor Shawn Stoll presiding.
Larry Henry Wangsness was born June 1, 1961, in Huron, SD to Roger and Marlene (Saville) Wangsness. He grew up on a farm southwest of Miller, SD, graduated from Miller High School, and went on to attend Wyoming Tech, graduating in 1979.
Larry married his best friend and love of his life, Skyla Dierkson, on June 30, 1979. He always said the couple’s wedding date was June 31st to see if anyone would comment that there aren’t 31 days in the month of June! In the 43 years of marriage, not many people commented so his joke carried on. Not a day went by Larry didn’t ask Skyla “Have I told you I love you yet today?”
Larry had many jobs and career paths throughout his life. Most important to him was family. His wife, boys, and grandkids meant everything to him. Together they enjoyed biking, hunting, fishing, and camping.
Larry is survived by his wife, Skyla of Orient; two sons, Cody of Orient and Kyle of Miller; and grandkids: Ely, Cooper, Lilly, and Cole.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Marlene Wangsness and parents-in-law, Dayton and Mona Sue Dierkson.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Larry’s arrangements.
