Linnell Moran
August 10, 1940 ~ November 3, 2021
Linnell M. Moran, 81, of Eagle Butte, began her journey to the stars, as her body grew tired, across the Milky Way of one mind and heart on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at Cheyenne River Health Center surrounded by the love of her family.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. MST, Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in the St. Thomas Cemetery, On The Tree, SD.
Linnell Marilyn Moran “Maheyo”, a name given by her Grandpa L. Posey Moran, was born on August 10, 1940, at home in Sans Arc Valley, to Donovan and Lema (Red Dog) Moran. She was a matriarch, a fluent Lakota speaker, daughter, sister, cousin, auntie, mama, grandma, friend, and a boarding school survivor – she never gave in. We will remember her stories, kindness, intelligence, wit, ingeniousness, humbleness, and most of all - her love.
Thank you, Mom and Grandma, for your sacrifices and fierce love for us. You travel with a tremendous number of prayers as we celebrate your life, you are pain free. We are excited that you get to see your mama, daddy, son, and all the loved ones who are there to greet you. Toksa Ake Maheo.
Linnell is survived by her daughters: Christine Shannon of San Diego, CA and Timi Williams of Eagle Butte; grandson, Nathaniel Fast Wolf of Eagle Butte, sisters: Doraine J. LaPlante and Aldina J. Moran; and brother, John V. Moran all of Eagle Butte.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Donovan L. Moran and Lema Red Dog-Moran; stepmom, E. Rose Red Dog-Moran; son, Benjamin M. Williams; sisters: Betty Jo Moran, Clara L. Moran, and Mary E. Moran; brothers, Hoksila Moran and Dayton S. Moran.
Thank you for all your prayers, kindness, thoughts, and comfort. Thank you to the I.H.S. Staff and Tribal Health Care nurses who cared for Linnell.
Thank you also to those, as Linnell called them “her boys and girls”, who always asked about her, it always brightened her day. She remembered each of you and if we ever needed to get her attention right away all we had to do was call her “Ms. Moran”.
Pilamayaye from Linnell’s (Red Dog and Moran) Tiwahe/Tiyospaye.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Linnell’s arrangements.

My deepest condolences, prayers and hugs for the family.
