Loran D. Curtis, 85, of Wessington, was called home on Monday, May 10, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.

Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Friday May 14, 2021 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Miller, with Father Paul Josten, celebrant.  Burial will be at a later date at Chappell Cemetery at Chappell, NE.

Loran was born June 13, 1935 to Dale and Gladys (Henry) Curtis in Talmage, NE.

In June 1954, Loran met the love of his life, Rosemary Jacobs.  They were married, shortly after, on July 3, 1954.  In their union they had five children: Rosalie, Lori, Randy, Kim, and Heidi.  In 1957, Loran joined the US Army and was stationed in Italy. He never hesitated to share his stories of his time in the military.  He was honorably discharged in 1958. Loran and Rosemary moved to North Platte, NE, where Loran worked 35 years for John Deere Industrial.  After leaving John Deere, Loran and Rosemary moved to Grand Island, NE, where he worked for Skagway department store in maintenance for 18 years.

In Loran’s free time, he enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, watching westerns, listening to classic country music, and especially cooking.  There were very few occasions where Loran wasn’t seen in front a grill. If there were, he was either in his shop working, or just simply enjoying the outdoors.

His memory will be cherished by his wife, Rosemary of Wessington, SD; five children: Rosalie Brainard of Aurora, NE; Lori (Eddie) Farrell of Grand Island; Randy (Arlene) Curtis of Cortez, CO; Kim (Dennis) Bell of Amarillo, TX; and Heidi (Larry) Kleinsasser of Wessington, SD; 19 grandchildren; and 46 great grandchildren.

Loran was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Gladys; brother, Bobby; sister, Doris; daughter, Lori; granddaughter, Tami Ann; and great granddaughter, Tami (Elizabeth)
