Lorraine Bown, 91, of Onida, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013 in Pierre.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg with Pastor Jeff Adel officiating. Burial followed in the Gettysburg Cemetery. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Luce Funeral Home, Gettysburg with visitation one hour prior.

Edna Lorraine Hord was born April 15, 1922 in Wausau, NE to George and Elsie (Coon) Hord. The family moved to Gettysburg when Lorraine was six; where she attended school and graduated from Gettysburg High School.

After her mother’s death Lorraine worked for the WPA. On April 18, 1942 Lorraine was united in marriage to Walter Sidney Bown. They made their home in rural Onida where they raised their family and she helped around the farm.

Lorraine loved spending her free time taking bus tours, sewing, quilting, doing crossword puzzles, cooking and baking. She and Sid also spent time square dancing.

She is survived by her husband, Sid of Onida; her children: Michael David (Diane) of St. Petersburg, FL, Nicholas Charles (Crystal) of Pierre and Debra Joan of Dallas, TX;  grandchildren: Michelle (Matt) Simms, Leslie and Clayton Bown, Kristin (David) Steinhaus and Trevor Boldin; and three great grandchildren: Macy, Audrey and Sydney Steinhaus.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Zuber and Maxine Bown; and one brother, George.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Lorraine’s arrangements.
