Marlene Gentile, age 57, of Milan, MN and formerly of Miller, SD passed away on Monday, October 9, 2006 at her residence.

Marlene Mae Gentile was born on November 5, 1948, in Huron, South Dakota the daughter of Jack and Irene (nee Beaner) Fanning. Marlene was baptized on November 28, 1948, and confirmed in 1961 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Miller, South Dakota. She attended grade school at St. Lawrence Public School and graduated from Mount Mary High School in Yankton, South Dakota. In May of 1967 she attended Mount Marty College and completed her accounting degree from Dickinson State University, Dickinson, North Dakota, in 1990.

Marlene was successfully employed at Dickinson Redi-Mix, Chuck Wendel & Associates at Valley City, North Dakota, and Lee & Berner LTD at Montevideo. On December 2, 1967, Marlene was united in marriage to Jim Gentile at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. To this union two sons, Jim and Brett, were born. Together they shared 38 years of married life.

Her religion was very important to her and she was active in every altar society of the churches she was a member of. She enjoyed craft shopping, decorating for the holidays, preparing big meals, making strawberry jelly, and her biggest and most precious joy of all were her grandchildren. She had a certain sparkle with her eyes whenever she spoke of them. She was truly a grandchild’s grandmother; second to none. Observing Marlene orchestrating a holiday meal in the middle of chaos was something to behold. She was a kind, considerate and passionate person who displayed an unconditional acceptance of all those she met and knew.

Marlene died at her home in Milan on Monday evening, October 9th, after a courageous fight with cancer. She had reached the age of 57 years, 11 months, and 4 days.

She is survived by her husband, Jim, of Milan; two sons: Jim (and Dawn) Gentile of Brookings, SD, and Brett (and Jessica) Gentile of Devils Lake, ND; six grandchildren: Madelyn, Jason, Alyssa, Jackson, Stella and Carley; her mother, Irene Fanning, of St. Lawrence, SD; five brothers: John (and Penny) Fanning of Sioux Falls, SD, Jerry (and Bobbi) Fanning of St. Lawrence, SD, Jeff (and Sherry) Fanning of Harrisburg, OR, Randy (and Teresa) Fanning of St. Lawrence, SD, and Jay Fanning of St. Lawrence, SD; nieces, nephews, and several other relatives.

She is preceded in death by her father, Jack Fanning; and two brothers: Michael and Joel Fanning.
