Mary Stanley, 89, of Faulkton, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Faulkton Senior Living.

Mary Jean was born to Matthew and Margaret (Severance) Holm during a blizzard in Cresbard, on January 17, 1933. While a teenager working at the soda shop there, she met the new elevator manager in town. Mary and Dean were married October 1, 1950. They loved dancing, especially at Cresbard, Chelsea, Tacoma Park, and Armadale Park. His job took them several places, and while in Huron their son Daniel was born. Later in Claremont, Susan was born. In 1967, the family moved back to Cresbard, where Dean and Mary resided until 1987.
Upon Dean’s retirement, the couple moved to Faulkton to be closer to at least one set of grandchildren. Mary put many miles on her Datsun going to stay with the Minnesota grandchildren whenever she could and spent her time at home always available for a story and nap time with the Faulkton kids. Her six grandchildren were truly the brightest light of her life.
Mary was an accomplished seamstress, sewing for herself, Susan, and with great joy, her grandchildren. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Lakeside Country Club, Faulk County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and a 70-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to play cards, especially Bridge and Pinochle, and was a charter member of the Happy Shufflers and the Coffee Cups Bridge clubs. She enjoyed baking cookies and bars to share with all, apple pie for the love of her life Dean, and the best caramel rolls in the world for her grandkids. Every birthday was cause for serious celebration with a custom decorated cake and plenty of presents. Christmas was clearly her favorite holiday with three or four Christmas trees and big stuffed stockings for the grandkids. Homemade ice cream and her hot fudge sauce were always a well-loved tradition to top each Christmas supper.
Blessed to have been Mary’s family are son, Dan, of West Fargo ND; daughter, Susan (Steve) Miller of Faulkton; grandchildren: Eric Stanley of Eagan, MN, Matt Stanley of Detroit Lakes, MN, Brian (Molly) Stanley of Fargo, ND, John (Jamie) Miller of Faulkton (Everett, Clara, Denton and Leo), Joe (Sally) Miller of Dell Rapids (Waylon and Halley Jo), and Emily (Ted) Holzwarth of Gettysburg (Thea and Iris).
Mary was welcomed home by her husband of 65 years, Dean; her parents; and her brothers: Robert (Erma) Holm, Melvin (Gertie) Holm and Homer Holm.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Mary’s arrangements.

I love ❤️ you so much, Aunt Mary jean. I’m going to miss our visits on the phone and your Xmas cards
Now you are happy again with your Mom, Dad and all your siblings
Till we meet again
Mary and Dean were both very special people. I have her famous caramel rolls (which I bake often) and I purchased two of her dark green chairs, which I have re-covered, but they are still in beautiful shape. We called them the traveling chairs as they 1st went to Raysby's home in Avon, then to Pierre, Rapid and finally to me. We had several wonderful, fun filled days while we were Grand Officers together and for several years after that. I will miss sending her our Christmas card this year, but I know she will be sending one back to me from Heaven.
Susan & family:
So sorry for your loss.
