Maurine Mae Bouzek was born July 29, 1937, to George and Martha (Eller) Bouzek in Pierre, South Dakota.  She grew up on her parent’s farm 22 miles north of Highmore.  She attended rural school in Illinois township in Hyde County.

In 1952, Maurine moved to Highmore with her parents.  Following graduation from high school in 1956, she attended Northeast College of Commerce in Huron for one year.

In August of 1957, she began work in the South Dakota Department of Revenue in the Motor Fuel Tax Division in Pierre. Maurine became the first woman field auditor for that department in September of 1975.  In August of 1980, she transferred back to the office of Interstate Fuel Division.

During these years, Maurine came home every weekend to help her parents.  She retired in September of 1997 and returned to Highmore to help maintain the family home.

Her hobbies were stamp collecting and needlework. She was a member of the Highmore Senior Center and enjoyed eating lunch and socializing there.   She also belonged to the Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society, the South Dakota Coin and Stamp Association, the American Philatelic Society, the American Topical Association, and several other stamp societies. She was an active member in the Methodist church. Whenever she had time, Maurine loved to travel with her cousin, Wayne Bouzek, and his wife.

Maurine will be missed by her many cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a host of aunts; and many uncles.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I remember walking home from school with Maureen alway a nice person Highmore will miss her prayers for all.

  2. Marine was a classmate. Sorry to hear this.

  3. Our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Maurine Bouzek. Our mother Dianne Dalton worked with Maurine at the Department of Revenue in Motor V. and became lifelong friends and pen pals. May God rest her soul. She was a lovely lady. She will be remembered and missed by our family for sure.

  4. In the 1960's and 70's, my dear friend Alfred Bloedorn rented with Maurine's parents. We teased Al about his weekend "girlfriend" Maurine. If the yard wasn't mowed to her specifications, she paid very well to get it spruced up. She didn't want to inconvenience Al's fishing. She really was a nice lady and is missed by me.
