Maxine Wahlen, 90, of Faulkton, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 28, 2013 at the United Church of Faulkton with Pastor Bill Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow in the Faulkton Cemetery. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the church with visitation one hour prior.  

Maxine Ethel Stanley was born June 9, 1923 at home near Chelsea, SD to William G. and Alpha (Van Horn) Stanley. She attended school in Cresbard, graduating in 1941.

On June 11, 1942 Maxine was united in marriage to Ray Wahlen in Pierre. They made their home in Faulkton where Maxine resided until the time of her death. She worked for Faulk County for 37 years, most of it working in the Director of Equalization office, retiring in 1985.

Together she and Ray enjoyed retirement spending time golfing and traveling. Maxine loved spending time with family and friends, playing cards, having picnics, reading or knitting.

She was a member of the United Church of Faulkton, the Ladies Circle, the VFW Auxiliary and the Rebekah Lodge.

Maxine’s life will be cherished by her children: Vernon Wahlen of Faulkton; Roger (Micki) Wahlen of St. Charles, IL, Linda (Nick) Roseland of Pierre and Marsha (Pat) Huss of Brighton, CO; daughter-in-law: Jacque Frisenger of Moorhead, MN; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Stanley; one great-great granddaughter; and four brothers: Harland, Glen, Kenneth and Elden.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Maxine’s arrangements.
