Micheal Washechek, 38, of Harrold, passed away from a tragic vehicle accident on Sunday, September 1, 2024, near Fort Thompson.
Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Harrold School Gym, with Brita Bergeson officiating. Burial will follow at the Highmore Cemetery.
Micheal (Mikey) Washechek was born on March 27, 1986, at an even 5 lbs., to Michael and Iris (Cables) Washechek. Mikey was born and raised in Huron, SD, where he attended school and graduated in May 2004 as a Huron Tiger. After graduation, Mikey moved to Highmore with his wife of 12 years, Kimberly (Cermak) Brehe. Three amazing children were born from this union: Gary, Hayden, and Jenna.
While growing up, Mikey loved fishing every weekend with his mom and dad at the 3rd Street Dam in Huron. During those years, Mikey would spend time with his sister, Barbara, and Grandpa Howard and Grandma Ruby Cables, down in Texas fishing in the pond. Another fond memory that Mikey had was making memories and spending time with his grandma Ruth in Wessington Springs and going to the park and swimming pool with his aunt, Lisa, and uncle, Scotty. Aside from spending time with family, Mikey would enjoy going to the skating rink, playing video games, and cruising Huron's streets on either his bike or with a friend. Mikey loved to nerd out playing video games or hanging out at the arcade.
Mikey was a hard worker and loved a good challenge. While living in Highmore, he worked at Hoffman Honey, Highmore’s local butcher shop, Global Harvest of Harrold, and then started his career as a grain elevator operator for 19 years. Mikey was a volunteer firefighter at Harrold Fire Department for 10 years.
Mikey was very much involved in the dart community. Whether it was Co-ed Pink ladies' leagues, cricket or 501, if there was a tournament, he tried his hardest to attend. He also supported his kids in Junior Darts. Mikey loved his kids and family – blood did not matter to him; he never met a stranger. Mikey would never pass up on a good concert. His music selection covered a wide array of genres.
Mikey is survived by his children: Gary, Hayden, and Jenna; his mother, Iris (Cables) Washechek; and sister, Barbara (Andy) Dotson, and their children Gavin and Brodie; the mother of his children, Kimberly (Micky) Brehe; Mikey’s special friend, Axell (Buggy) Brehe; grandma Ruth Washechek; uncle, Rick Washechek; uncle, Scott Washechek and his children, Royse Washechek, and Richard Washechek; aunt, Lisa Washechek and her children: Maddi, Macy, Mia, Piper, and Oliver; aunt, Tiffany Washechek and her children Tessa, Iva, and John Paul; uncle, Ross Cables; and lots of extended family and tons of friends and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by sister, Mary Lynn Willis; father, Michael James Washechek; maternal grandparents, Howard and Ruby Cables; nephew, Hayden Joe Schmautz (fellow firefighter), paternal grandpa, Richard Keith Washechek; and paternal uncle, Todd Washechek.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Micheal’s arrangements.

I send my deepest sympathy to Mike's family. I enjoyed talking and sending music to each other for the last 7 years. He will be deeply missed. I know he loved his kids and mom soo much. He had just shared pictures of going to Skillet at the corn palace with his kids the other weekend.
I send my deepest sympathy to Mikey’s family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I have fond memories of my childhood with Mikey, we grew up through grade school together. He had a kind and gentle soul and was nice to everyone. I remember him always laughing with a smile on his face. So sorry for your loss, he was taken too soon.
Micheal and I grew up together. He was one of my oldest friends. We unfortunately lost much of our contact because I moved out of South Dakota but I have fond memories of the time we spent together.
Favorite of these times, are when we played dungeons and dragons. We had a number of adventures, slaying goblins and saving townsfolk. I know Micheal brought his infectious energy to the other aspects of his life and he will be greatly missed.
Mikey was always a phone call away. He was a great family friend who was always there ready to help with a smile on his face. Prayers to all of his friends, his kids, and Iris. We’ve been thinking of you all day. This is such a tragedy and a huge loss for our community as well. You will be missed.
Mikey you were always such a kind soul and your smile was infectious as everyone around you couldn't help but have a good time! I don't know if you ever met a stranger. I send you my deepest sympathy. I know Michael is in Heaven with our Father, but it is hard to rejoice for someone when you can’t see him. I promise you. Michael is loved deeply & cared for well. The nice part about Heaven is there are no fires. The same cannot be said for the other way. Sending much love.

Memories of Mikey are all over my home…Mikey and Matt were almost inseparable as kids. He was like my second son. He has ALWAYS been Matt's best (and only) friend. Mikey was always good at making surprise visits to see Matt throughout all these years. He was always very loved. My heart is missing a piece…Mikey has that piece. 😔
So sorry for your loss, Aaron has told us lots about Mikey ,he was a good friend and dart partner. Your family will be in our prayers as you move forward in this time.
