Michael Harold Ahlemeier was born August 5, 1950, in Hoven, South Dakota to Harold John and Elaine (Hansen) Ahlemeier. Mike graduated from Gettysburg High School and went on to receive his Bachelor of Business from South Dakota State University in Brookings. After completing his education, Mike made the decision to return to Gettysburg to run the family farm.  His tireless efforts and unwavering dedication to agriculture were not only a testament to his work ethic but also a testament to his love for the land and his family.

In 1970, Mike married Marilyn Hanneman, and they had three sons: Scott, Kevin, and Curits.

Mike was a loving father, grandfather, and cherished member of his community.  He found great joy in watching his grandkids play sports, capturing precious moments through his photography, fishing and camping with family, and tending to his farm, nurturing his crops with care.  In his later years, he shared a beautiful life with the love of his life, Kathy.

Mike’s life will be forever cherished by his significant other, Kathy Schweitzer, Sioux Falls; sons: Scott (Trish) and Kevin, all of Gettysburg, and Curtis of New Orleans, Louisiana; his grandchildren: Shelby, Jadyn, Paige, Peyton, Kayden, Haylie, Brynlie, and Dylan; great-grandchildren: Sutton, Rhett, and Banks; sisters: Cindy Futch, Linda Helgeson, and Brenda Snipes and brother, John (Tina) Ahlemeier.

He was preceded in death by his parents: H.J. and Elaine Ahlemeier; maternal and paternal grandparents; sister, Kay Ahlemeier and brother-in-law, Rick Snipes.

Memorials in Mike's honor may be directed to "Keep Hope Local" at 127 Hilltop Dr, Gettysburg, SD 57442, or to the "Oahe Area Youth Center" at PO Box 65, Gettysburg, SD 57442, which will carry forward Mike's legacy of supporting the youth and enriching our community through local activities.

  8. So sorry to hear about Mike. My thoughts and prayers are with you & your family. I first met Mike & his family back in the early seventies when we were custom combining his crops. My Mom, Margie Mai & Mike would have the same birthdays, August 5th, and they would always celebrate together! It was always a great time & lots of laughs when my brother, Jack Mai, would get together! They remained friends till my brothers death 3 years ago this November 18th. We made a lot of friends during our Custom Combining days from Texas to North Dakota but our most memorable was in Gettysburg with Mike. He was a great father to his kids and to his family, and treated us like family! He will be missed tremendously by all that knew him! May you rest in peace Mike, and no more pain and suffering. GOD be with you, till we meet again. Always a friend forever, Dana (Mai) Reicks

  11. Kevin, sorry for your loss. May God's peace be upon you and may his loving arms comfort you!

  12. Mike and I became friends in the 5th grade after a bit of a "rocky" start. Over the years at GHS we did alot of things together, sports, hunting, etc. After high school we still got together on breaks from college. We drifted apart after college, but always made a point to get together at reunions. He will be missed!

  13. We are very sorry for your loss.🙏🙏🙏

  14. When my brothers and I were just young kids and would go to Gettysburg to visit Grandma and Grandpa Hansen, Aunt Elaine, Uncle Lyle and all of the cousins for holiday get-togethers, Mike would always make homemade ice cream for everyone. I've always thought of him as a man of exemplary character. My thoughts and prayers continue for Mike and all who are grieving his loss.
