Nora Rieger

Nora Rieger, 85, of Gettysburg, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the United Church of Faulkton with Pastor Daniel Tews officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service.
Burial was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.
Nora Austinson was born July 3, 1926 in Mound City, SD, on a farm, to John and Anna (Kittel) Austinson. While growing up Nora attended country school near Mound City and Selby through the 8th grade.
Nora helped on the family farm during her youth and at Burn’s Café as a dishwasher until turning nineteen, when she met the man of her dreams, Walter Rieger. They were married July 7, 1945 in Herried. They made their home with Walter’s family until moving to a farm south of Mound City. After that they moved to three different farms in the Selby area. They then moved to Warner for a short time until ending up in 1966 at the Mutsch Farm at Rockham where they remained until 1990 when Walter retired. In 1970 she started to work as a cook at the John P. Shirk Nursing Home, now the Faulkton Healthcare Center. Walter and Nora moved to Gettysburg in 1990 where they cleaned the United Methodist Church for many years. Nora also worked in the kitchen for the Oahe Manor Nursing Home.
Nora spent her free time gardening, cooking, baking and fishing. Nora and Walter loved to travel. They were able to take fishing trips to the Black Hills and spend time in Alabama and Mexico.
She touched many lives and shared her love through them with her kindness toward all. Everyone is special to her; she brought out the best in everyone.
Grateful to have shared in her life are her in-laws: Alice and Milton “Bud” Ford of Aberdeen, Ida Ford of Watertown and Alvin and Nancy Rieger of Alabama and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Esther and brother, Edgar.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Nora's arrangements.

Will always remember my high school years of working with Nora in the kitchen at the nursing home. Fun times, and what a wonderful cook! Now Walter and Nora will watch down on all of us and no longer suffer with the pain. God Bless you both.
I too, remember Nora when I worked in the kitchen at the Shirk home during my high school years. I have many fond memories of those times. Even though she had no children, she was a mother to many.
Sorry to hear of her passing. She and Walter, are now together once again.
So sad to hear of your passing…Always enjoyed working with you. Your meals were always 4 star amd you made the best Date cookies in the world. God Bless You!!!
