Patrick McMahon, 70, of Miller, passed away early in the morning, Tuesday, September 7, 2021, after a long fight with metastatic cancer at the Good Samaritan Society, Miller.

Patrick was one of four children to Lloyd and Lauretta, he grew up in Miller, SD. He excelled at academics and sports throughout middle and high school and was awarded a football scholarship to South Dakota School of Mines. Upon the completion of his schooling, he was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and moved to Augusta, Kansas to work for Mobil’s refinery. He had a long and successful career with Mobil, then ExxonMobil. In addition to local refinery work, he also worked around the world as a machine specialist and after retirement worked on special projects for the BRG Machinery Consulting firm.

Not long after moving to Kansas, he met and eventually married Jeanie. They had three children, a dog, and multiple cats. Pat, Jeanie, and his family lived in multiple states, following his job with Mobil, eventually living, and then retiring in Houston.

Pat enjoyed fishing and hunting, woodworking and building furniture, trying new recipes, eating either a great steak and potato or seafood, having a well-kept yard, and drinking a beer. He enjoyed traveling and seeing the world with Jean at his side and, after retirement, was able to see Normandy, France and Utah beach, Israel, and Jordan. He was supportive of his children in their sports and education and was proud that all three children graduated from college.

He leaves behind his brother, Tim (Verna); sister, Helen (Hugh) Minor; daughter, Megan (Earl) Gardner; sons: Gill (Emily), and Matthew (Brady); grandchildren: Patrick, Ryan, Aubrey, and Caroline; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.

Pat is preceded in death by his loving wife, parents: Lloyd "Bud" and Lauretta; and his brother, Mike.

  1. Sorry to hear this news. Prayers for you Tim and the family.

  2. I was a neighbor to Pat & his family for about 4 years when we were growing up. We didn't know each other too well during that time, 5th grade to 8th grade, maybe.
My most precious thought of Pat will always be what I called "the gift from God to the class of 1969." Even with all of his troubles, he was able to attend our 50th High School reunion in 2019 and I think he enjoyed being there & we all were so glad he was there! In preparation for the reunion, Bob Templeton & I went to visit him at Tim & Verna's home & then I enjoyed several more reminiscing visits with him at Prairie Good Samaritan Center.

  3. So sorry to here of Pats passing. He was a good man and classmate. His family can be proud of his legacy.

So sorry to here of Pats passing. A good man and classmate. Tim and Hellen

  4. Tim sorry for your loss. Football foes never forget.
