Peggy L. McInnis, 93, of Miller, passed away Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.

Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Peggy Lou was born December 15, 1926 in Nilwood, Illinois to Leigh and Faye (Imel) Meeds. She attended Nilwood grade school and then graduated in 1944 from Girard, Illinois high school. After high School, Peggy worked for Bell Telephone as an operator in Springfield, Illinois for seven years.

She met John McInnis and they were married on July 15, 1951. The couple lived near Wessington, South Dakota, spent two years in Girard, Illinois and then later back to Miller, South Dakota. This is where John started his business, Dakota Plumbing and Heating. Peggy and John had two daughters, Leigh Ann and Susan Kim, Susan passed away when she was three and a half years old.

She worked in many places including Prairie Center Nursing Home, Hand County Memorial Hospital and helped in the special education classroom in the Miller school. Peggy and John helped organize the A. R. C. association for the mentally handicapped in Huron, Miller and Highmore. They also were chaperones for the Special Olympians for their state track meets. Peggy helped organize a Girl Scout group for the handicapped. John passed away in 1993.

Peggy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Miller and was a 60-year member of the Eastern Star.

She leaves behind her friends she called family: Lynn and Kevin Watts family; Branden and Lindsey Sievers family; Nan and Mike Donlin, Duane and Sally Resel family, Tammy and Dale Lichty, Joe, Scott and Todd Ravenscroft; and many cousins in Illinois.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, John; daughters: Susan Kim and Leigh Ann; her parents and her aunts and uncles whom she called brothers and sisters.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Peggy's arrangements.

    I am so sorry to hear of Peggy's passing. I worked as a nurse's aid at the hospital in Miller when I was in high school. She was such a fun, caring person. Ever since then we would always stop and visit with one another when I was in Miller. Peggy was a wonderful person, and I am blessed to have known her. May God comfort you in your time of loss.

  4. Always enjoyed Peggy and John. Enjoyed having coffee with Peggy at Rexall. Have good memories visiting with her. Her and John were very active in the special needs activities. Peggy was a special person. Will miss her. Joan.

    Am so sorry to hear about Aunt Peggy. We hadn't seen her since 2000 but wrote to each other. When we were in S.D. we spent such a lovely day with her. She took us all over to see the sights and graves of relatives. She even took us to the casino. Will never forget when we came to a stop sigh in Miller and she said "Oh just look at all the traffic !" I think there was all of 3 cars at the intersection. Will miss hearing from her.
