Phyllis A. Resel, 79, of St. Lawrence, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Hand County Memorial Hospital, Miller.

Funeral services were held at 10:30a.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church, Miller with Rev. Brian Jones officiating. Burial was in the St. Lawrence Cemetery, directed by Reck Funeral Home of Miller. Visitation was held from 4:00-7:00p.m., Monday, March 31 with a 7:00p.m. prayer service at Reck Funeral Home, Miller.

Phyllis Ann was born September 27, 1928 in Miller to Carl and Elsie (Engelmann) Winsell of Spring Lake Township. Phyllis attended country school during her elementary years and graduated from Miller High School in 1946. The following year, she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone as an operator.

On September 21, 1947, Phyllis married Orville W. Resel. They farmed north of St. Lawrence for thirteen years. They moved to St. Lawrence in 1960 when Orville became the postmaster.

Phyllis was an active homemaker and involved in the Kitchen Klatter Klub, VFW Auxiliary, Legion Auxiliary, and served in many capacities as an active member of the First Presbyterian Church including deacon, trustee and elder.

She was an exterior/interior painter for several years. She also worked as the secretary to the principal of St. Lawrence Public Schools during the early 1970’s. For many years, Phyllis provided child care for the children of Ronnie and Marilyn Williams and Chip and Sena Rombough.

Phyllis took pride in her community and led efforts to organize the “Celebrate the Century” celebrations in June of 1989. She compiled a book for the event entitled, “St. Lawrence Then and Now.”

Grateful to have shared in Phyllis’s life include one son, Wayne (Judy) Resel of Watertown; daughter, Kay Resel of Climbing Hill, Iowa; three grandsons, Michael (Valerie) Resel of Watertown, Jason Dehnert of Phoenix, AZ, and Ben Nash of Dakota City, NE; one granddaughter, Angela Nash of Climbing Hill, Iowa; one great-grandson, Alex Resel; one great-granddaughter, Haley Resel; two sisters, Elaine Roeber and Harriet (Tip) Sisk of Miller; two sister-in-laws, Marie Winsell of Banning, CA and Clorene Resel of St. Lawrence; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Elsie Winsell; husband, Orville; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Mary Resel; brother, Rick Winsell.

Pallbearers were Stephan Resel, Ryan Resel, Mick Resel, Alex Roeber, Jason Resel, Chad Resel, and Eric Williams.

Honorary pallbearers were Duane Resel, Lyle Resel, Dale Resel, Scott Roeber, Ronnie Williams, and Chip Rombough.

Kristi Prince  played the organ. Congregational hymns were, "Precious Lord, Take My Hand", "Amazing Grace", and "How Great Thou Art."

Reck Funeral Home of Miller was entrusted with her arrangements.
