Preston T. Maynard, 61, of Marksville, passed away, Friday, January 2, 2026, in his home.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. MST, Friday, January 9, 2026, at Mossman Cemetery, Ridgeview, SD. A lunch will follow at All Saints Catholic Church, Eagle Butte.
Preston Theodore Maynard was born on April 21, 1964, in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, to Ronald Maynard and Mary Lu Rousseau. He grew up in the Ridgeview area and later lived in Sturgis, as well as several other places throughout the Black Hills.
Preston attended school in Sturgis and Eagle Butte, eventually completing his high school education at a trade school in Colorado. In September 1985, he married the love of his life, Lisa H. Ducheneaux. In 1988, their first daughter, his “mini version,” Rose Mary was born. She was named after both of her grandmothers. Just shy of a year later, Alissa Helene was born, completing their family.
Preston held many jobs throughout his life and was truly a jack of all trades. He was a talented artisan who made jewelry and other artistic pieces in his spare time. He also worked as a mechanic, carpenter, builder, farm and ranch hand, and buffalo herd manager for Pte Hca Ka Inc. He also held several positions with Prairie Management.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Preston loved spending time on Lake Oahe and fishing whenever he had the chance. He passed along his love for the outdoors and working with his hands to his daughter Rosey, who cherished spending time and fighting with her dad. Preston also enjoyed doodling on any paper or box he could find while sitting at home. His love of art and drawing was passed on to his daughter Alissa, the artist of the family.
In his later years, Preston faced ongoing health issues that limited his ability to enjoy many of the outdoor activities he loved.
Preston is survived by his wife, Lisa H.; daughters, Rose (Robert) and Alissa; brother, Wayne; sister, Kelly Michelle; stepfather, Dick Prosser; mother-in-law, Theresa R. Ducheneaux; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Maynard and Mary Lu Rousseau; brother, C.L. Maynard; sister, Annette Herren; nephew, Lorenzo Wanbli Chavez; and many other loved ones.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the IHS Ambulance Service and the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital–Mayo Clinic Campus, along with the Mayo Clinic doctors, for their compassionate care.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Preston’s arrangements.
