Rene’ Bertsch, 54, of Miller, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society of Miller.
Memorial service were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Miller with Pastor David Winterfeldt and Pastor Dr. Beth Kelsey officiating. A prayer service was held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Miller. Inurnment was held at the St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Reinata (Rene’) Bertsch was born February 22, 1958 to George and Leona (Fawcett) Engelmann in Miller, South Dakota. She attended Ree Heights Elementary School through the eighth grade. She then attended Miller High School and graduated in 1976. From there she attended the University of Sioux Falls and graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Development. She also attended South Dakota State University and Northern State University.
After completing her degree, Rene’ became the director of a daycare in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She then moved on to be a nanny in Minneapolis, Minnesota and then to an employee of Jones Drug in Miller. Rene’ married Randy Bertsch on May 22, 1993 in Miller and to this union two children were born, Allison and Adam.
She then returned to her love of being with children and was a teacher with the Skill Builder program in the Miller School District and also a special education aide. Rene’ also had an in home daycare called Rene’s Little Angels from 1999 through 2003. She then worked at Hand in Hand Daycare from 2004 through 2011 as a helper and Nursery school teacher.
Rene’ loved to sing in the church choir, refurnishing furniture, cross stitching, photography, scrapbooking, in which she had made several of her children and daycare days. She enjoyed attending community theatres and concerts. Her biggest enjoyment was teaching and caring for children, especially her own.
Rene’ was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Aberdeen Early Childhood Educators, Hand County Library League, Central Plains Arts Council, and the Miller Booster Club.
Rene’ is survived by her husband, Randy of Miller; children, Allison and Adam of Miller; father, George Engelmann and stepmother, Beth Kelsey of Ree Heights; siblings: Melita (Phil) Wiedenman of Huron, Connie (Bob) Templeton of Ree Heights, Chris (John) Niederauer of Miller, Gary (Kathy) Engelmann of Baxter, MN, and Lori (David) Fremark of St. Lawrence and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Leona.
In honor of Rene, memorials can be directed to the Miller Area Foundation, 103 W. 3rd St., Miller, SD 57362.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Rene’s arrangements.




God bless Rene and welcome her into Heaven to be with her savior Jesus Christ. We on earth have lost the companionship of a beautiful , loving person. Lord be with Rene’s family during this difficult time. Condolences to all of you and all of our community.
I wish I had the words of comfort that Rene’s memory deserves. I pray that we will honor the memory of the sweet girl that was my cousin, childhood friend and “next door neighbor”. Love to you all.

I grew up with Rene’ and she has always been a special friend. Growing up together and going to our country school was a wonderful time in our lives, and when my family moved Rene’ was a friend that kept in touch…what great childhood memories!
Know that she has a special place with God and will always be with you. Keep her in your heart and she will be there.

Rene’ was always so happy, smiling all the time and was such a delite to wait on her when I worked at the cafe.
