March 7, 1928 ~ November 11, 2020

Robert James Hansen, 92, of Orient, passed away on November 11, 2020 in Redfield, SD. Lovingly referred to as “Uncle Bob”, he will be buried at Prairie View Cemetery, located South of Orient, SD.

Bob was born in Faulkton to Halbert and Leah (Downing) Hansen on March 7, 1928. He graduated in 1946 from Orient High School and was never married. Out of high school, he joined the Army and served in the Korean War until January 25, 1957. After fulfilling his duties in the Army, he did road construction being scraper operator for several years. Bob then developed his own construction company, doing all sorts of jobs including concrete work to shingling. His favorite occupation would be spending the winters trapping or hunting. He would drive dawn to dusk traveling the countryside checking his traps for the catch.

For most of his life, Bob spent his summers related to baseball. He coached teams either by himself or with his best friend and brother Virgil. If he was not coaching, Robert spent many games offering his services behind the plate.

His parents Halbert and Leah; brothers-in-law, Dale Markegard, and Lyle Levtzow preceded Robert in death.

He is survived by his brother Virgil Hansen; sisters: Lavilla Levtzow, Phyllis Markegard, and Karen (Claude) Bent.

Bob was VERY proud of all his nieces and nephews as he would partake and attend many of their activities and events, handing out Juicy Fruit.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all his nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Luce Funeral home and services will be done at a later day yet to be determined.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Robert’s arrangements.
