January 10, 1946 ~ October 14, 2020

Roger Bowar, 74, of Huntsville, Alabama, formerly of Miller, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at his family’s home.

Memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the American Legion Auxiliary, Miller with Rev. Brian Jones officiating.

Roger James Bowar was born the second child of John and Dorothy (McMurtry) Bowar on January 10, 1946. Growing up, Roger lived with his family in Miller, SD and left school to start working to support his family.

Roger met Lillian “Kay” Campbell and quickly fell in love. Roger and Kay married on August 6, 1965. Together they made their home in Miller, South Dakota. Their unity brought eight children into this world.

Through their marriage, the Bowar home was always full. Between the kids, grandkids, nieces/nephews, and neighbor kids staying and visiting there was always love and conversations galore. In addition to spending time with Kay and family, Roger also enjoyed watching NASCAR, dirt track racing, playing pinochle, and going down to have coffee and a chat at the local store.

Roger spent many days on the road as a truck driver. His fondest memories are when Kay would ride along and they were able to visit many states together. Unfortunately, Kay was taken too soon from his life after her battle with cancer. She passed away surrounded by loved ones in May of 2003. Kay was the love of his life and over the last 17 years she was always his favorite topic to talk about. On October 14, 2020, Roger and Kay were able to be reconnected in heaven.

Roger will always be remembered for his generosity, love for his kids and grandkids, jokes, stories, and the love he had for Kay. He will be dearly missed by so many.

He is survived by his two daughters, {Bucket} Traci (Alan) Adkins, and {Fleabee} Tina Juaraz; four sons, {Junkyard John} John (Cindy) Bowar, {Rotten Ryan} Ryan Bowar, {Rosco} Scott Bowar, and {Varmit} Matthew (Gena) Bowar; two brothers: Richard (Jean) Bowar and Raymond (Rhonda) Bowar; four sisters: Evelyn Reeves, Sylvia Bowar, Mary Bowar, and Donna (Gary) Matthews; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by the love of his life, Kay (Campbell) Bowar; his parents: John and Dorothy (McMurtry) Bowar; his father and mother-in-law: Alfred and Alice Campbell; children: Tamara Kay Bowar and Roger Mark Bowar; sister Liz Eason; brother Robert Bowar, brother-in-law, Charles Reeves; and great granddaughter, Kaydence Bowar.

The family would like to thank numerous doctors and nurses that have helped throughout the years, as well as his daughter-in-law, Cindy Bowar, who has been his primary caregiver when his health issues progressed.

Keep on trucking in the after life Roger. You will be missed!
