Roger Kutz, 63, of Highmore, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2017 at Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital, Miller.
Funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Highmore with Pastor Sara Kayser officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Highmore. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2017 at Luze Funeral Home, Highmore.
Roger Kutz was born October 1, 1953 in Miller, South Dakota to Victor John and Arlene (Christensen) Kutz. He grew up in Highmore where he met Carolyn Kusser. They married June 30, 1971. From this union, two children were born, John & Linda. As a young couple, they lived all across the US as he was splicing cable, including Las Vegas in the mid 70’s where Linda was born.
Roger has held many jobs from grocery store clerk, custodian at the local school, owner of Roger’s Sports Bar and Grill and raising pheasants. Roger had a great work ethic that he proudly handed down to his children. One of his passions was to continue to develop the farm into a great place to hunt pheasants and deer. He was very conservation minded and wanted to be sure future generations have a place to gather and enjoy the outdoors.
People who knew Roger best would say he loved unconditionally. He loved watching his grandchildren in various activities; and was quick to call and get a status anytime he couldn’t attend an event. Roger loved his time with friends, especially going fishing with his happy hour buddies or having them stop by the farm in the 5:00 hour to enjoy a cold beer and some good laughs. In recent years, Roger and Carolyn were able to retire and enjoy sometime in Donna, Texas over the winter. Like anywhere, Roger quickly adapted and made many new friends. Roger was a proud member of the Highmore Volunteer Fire Department and a huge Vikings Fan. He has been able to attend many Vikings games and was very fond of the friendly banter with rival teams.
Roger is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, John (Diana) Kutz, Otsego, MN; daughter, Linda (Brian) Gill, Java, SD; grandchildren; Natalie, Kayla and Trevor Gill, Jocelyn, Samantha and Allyson Kutz; siblings: Janice (Tom) Birdsall of Port Charlotte, FL, Bob (Dianne) Kutz of Sioux Falls, SD, Tim (Val) Kutz of Arcadia, Florida, Lisa (Steve) Nielson of Blair, Nebraska, and David (Linda) Kutz of Spearfish, SD; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; Victor John and Arlene; sister, Marlene “Toot” Czaja; grandparents: Otto & Ruth Kutz and Victor & Ruth Christensen.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Roger's arrangements.
The family of Roger request causal dress attire for the funeral. Roger liked to be comfortable so you should be as well!
