Roger “Sonny” Burki was born April 6, 1935 in Highmore, South Dakota. He was the adopted son of Otto and Martha (Doedon) Burki. Sonny lived all of his life on the family ranch west of Harrold other than the year he spent in Corona, Calif. where his father owned a grocery store. The family moved to Piedmont, SD for a year where Sonny graduated from the eighth grade at a country school. They then returned to the family ranch.
On May 29, 1955 he married Jackie Pfeil in Harrold and to this union their one daughter Judy was born.
Sonny loved his family, working with his horses, wagon and machinery. He truly enjoyed sitting in his kitchen, visiting with friends and family about the latest news or old funny stories. He also loved planting and maintaining an abundant garden that included one hundred tomato plants.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Jackie of Harrold; Judy (Dave) Ogle of Harrold; three grandchildren: Stacey (Amber) Ogle of Mitchell, Justin Ogle of Harrold and Heidi (Josh) Thorpe of Mitchell; three great grandchildren: Cameron, Tryston & Ashton Ogle of Harrold; his little companion dog, Cookie; one sister-in-law: Marjorie (Walter) Manley of Fairbury, NE, one brother-in-law: Bob (Kay) Pfeil of Clear Lake; his biological mother: Hazel Stewart of Fairbury, NE and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents.

Jackie and family
We are sorry to hear about Sonny passing away. You have our deep sympathy.
Joey & Peg
Jackie, i am sorry about the loss of “Sonny” i got to thinking about all the times he would come and rescue me when i worked for Dave. Weather i was fixing fence or farming it seems that i could always find a mud hole. or if i needed a chew he was always there with one.
Judy and family:
Our sincere sympathy to you and your at this difficult time. Know that your friends here at the HP are thinking of you and sending our love.
Take care of yourself now; your Dad is in a much better place enjoying his eternal “garden”.
Thinking of you and your family.
