Rosalyn Arpan, 78, of Eagle Butte, passed away Friday, July 1, 2022, at Sanford Medical Center, Bismarck, ND.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., MDT, Friday, July 8, 2022, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in Bordeaux Cemetery, LaPlant. Wake services will be 6:00 p.m., Thursday, July 7, 2022, at the church, with a procession from the 4-Mile at 4:00 p.m.

Rosalyn Joyce Bordeaux was born June 17, 1944, in Hastings, Nebraska to Arthur and Violet (Lee) Bordeaux. Rosalyn attended and graduated from Cheyenne Eagle Butte High School.  Following her high school education, she attended cosmetology school. In 1965, she met Albert Arpan Sr., They moved to Scotts Bluff, IA and were married on March 23, 1971. Together they welcomed five children.

Besides being a homemaker, Rosalyn worked at the Swiftbird Head Start, 212 Day School as a fill-in cook, BIA as a dorm matron, CRST Swiftbird field clinic, and also as a foster parent. She fostered two boys and their sister during her time as a foster parent. When her sister Viola passed away, she raised her children as well.

Rosalyn’s favorite activities included sewing, quilting, yarning, riding horseback, and occasionally fishing. When she was young, she enjoyed pow-wow trails. She also was a member of a ladies’ Friendship Aide Circle. They did many things to help the children of the community.

Rosalyn is survived by her children: Christopher of Eagle Butte, Violet Aragon/Arpan of Swiftbird, Terrance of Fort Pierre, Albert (Traci) Jr. of Swiftbird, and Delbert of Eagle Butte; siblings: Jennifer (Garland) Maupin, LeAnn Bordeaux, and Connie Bordeaux; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Arpan; siblings: Harold “Peaches” Lee, Eva Garreaux, Viola Bordeaux, Chris “Shorty” Bordeaux, Richard “Dick” Bordeaux, and three others in infancy.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Rosalyn’s arrangements.

  1. It is with much sadness and sympathy for her children and CRST family members. She will always be with you in your heart. We will miss her dearly and wish her a good journey to the spirit world. I take comfort knowing that she will be greeted by her parents and all other relatives who have made their journey. Aunty Rosie give my Mother (Betty) and Aunt Cynthia a big hug and kisses. You are loved and will be remembered in my prayers. Love you Aunty Rosalyn!!!!

  2. It was sad to hear of your passing cousin Rosie. I remember you when I was a kid in LaPlant. You were helping Mom (rip) do laundry even though you were sick on that wintry day and other times. May your Journey to Ma(h)piya, Heaven be a great one as you join family and friends. Say hi to cousins Dick and Shorty and all the rest. And may your family find solace during this time of loss. Doksha ake', we will see you again cousin.
