Rudolph Rudy Freitag, 86, of Miller, died Sunday, June 12, at the Good Samaritan Center in Miller. Rudys memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 17 at the First Baptist Church in Miller with Rev. Kent Atkinson officiating.
Rudolph Lee Freitag was born August 10, 1924 to Gustav and Annette (Trottnow) Freitag on their family farm near Kaylor, South Dakota. He attended school at Kaylor, graduating from Kaylor High School in 1942.
He helped his parents around the farm and later moved to Portland, Oregon with his mother and sisters, Leona and Ella. He worked in a pet store where his fondest memories were of the Boston Bull Terriers.
Rudy moved back to Miller and helped his sister Ruth and her husband on their farm before managing the Pool Hall on Main Street of Miller. In 1964 he met Bonniemae Funk at Nammanys Caf after he dared her to throw a glass of water on him. They were married December 10, 1964. Rudy went to work for Wayne White south of Ree Heights before eventually working for TJ Poindexter and Dub Clement north of Ree Heights. After a brief taste of retirement, he decided that he and Bonniemae should deliver newspapers in Miller. They delivered 150 papers and always had the paper there before people go up to have their morning coffee.
Rudy moved to the Good Samaritan Healthcare Center in May 2009 due to health issues.
Rudy loved to sit outside for hours and watch the traffic go by in the Spring and Summer while in the Fall and Winter you could find him watching football, cheering for his favorite team, the Vikings. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, as they were the apple of his eye.
Rudy was a hard working, honest man of few words. He touched the hearts of everyone that met him.
