Scottie Gibson, 74, of St. Lawrence, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the Community Memorial Hospital Avera in Redfield, SD.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 30, 2022, followed by a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at Reck Funeral Home in Miller.  A Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Miller, with Pastor Will Page, officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials.

Scottie LeRoy Gibson was born June 23, 1948 to Walter and Lavina (Prohaska) Gibson in Hand County.

Scottie and Diana (Tracy) married in January of 1974 and spent 46 loving years together. He helped raise her three children and later welcomed another child, Scott, in 1976.

He was a 40 year member and former Chief of the St. Lawrence Fire Department and was a member of the IOOF. He worked for his father at Gibson Lumber Yard, farmed on the family farm, and worked at Builders Cashway where he later retired from. He spent many years gardening and tinkering with all sorts of metal items. He enjoyed collecting new fun hats, spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and having coffee with his men’s group.

He is survived by his wife, Diana; four children: John "Chipper" (Sharon) King of Omak, Washington, Debra (Eric) Mahnke of Ashton, Melisa (Zack) Hofer of Freeman, and Scott (Jenny) Gibson of Miller; grandchildren: Kera, Jamie, Jessica, Jackie, David, Austin, Emily, Jake, and Ally; seven great-grandchildren; sisters: Linda Roland of New Mexico and LeAnna Masters of Piedmont; brother, Allan (Mary) Gibson of Rapid Valley; and many nieces and nephews.

Scottie is preceded in death by his grandparents: Charles and Inez Prohaska, and Walter and Maude Gibson; parents: Lyle and Lavina; and brothers: Loren and Lyndel.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Scottie's arrangements.

  4. I have alot.of memories of Scottie. Alot are wrapped up in the time spent at Cashway. I will miss his jokes(not always appropiate), his love for break time(especially his goat cheese sandwich, and of course his laugh. A laugh that came after he cornered you some place in the lumber yard and you could not get away.(aka his passing gas). Reat in peace my friend. Prayers for all…he will be missed!
