Sharon R. Lee

Sharon R. Lee, 42, of LaPlant, passed away Friday December 19, 2025, at Black Hills Special Services, Sturgis, SD.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. MST, Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Church of God, LaPlant. Burial will follow in the Lee Family Cemetery, LaPlant.

Sharon Rose Lee was born April 29, 1983, in Rapid City, South Dakota to Bonita Shot At and Arlen Lee.  She was raised in her early years in LaPlant, South Dakota where she was cared for by many family members as well as her grandma, the late Myra Lee, and others who shared her early life.  Sharon spent her younger years at rural LaPlant in the country, and she brought much joy to all who knew her from her cousins to other family members.  She got on her first horse when she was three years old and she loved walking and running with her cousins and traveling as well.  Due to her being born as a special child with Down’s Syndrome, Sharon had special needs that needed to be tended to by professional caretakers, and she was enrolled in Black Hills Special Services Cooperative at a young age, in 1991. It was through this placement that Sharon learned her skills and developed a work ethic at a young age working at various businesses in the Black Hills area and residing with very caring foster parents.

Sharon lived in a foster home with Gary and Verna Geuke. Sharon had a close relationship with Verna and enjoyed activities with extended family members. In 2004, Sharon moved into a new home with Keith and Deb Pickett where she lived until 2024 when she need more care and moved into a group-living home in Sturgis.  While with the Pickett’s, she enjoyed countless activities with Deb, Keith and their children. They were truly a second family to Sharon.  Sharon attended school at BHSSC until 2005 when she graduated. She worked at many jobs throughout her life including Alive Headwear Cap Factory, the Donald Young Center, the Deadwood Trollies and South Dakota Department of Health.  Sharon also really enjoyed her Special Olympic activities, which included track, basketball, bowling and softball.

Sharon was a very bright shining light to her father and mother, who loved her dearly, and to others in her life.  She could be a little mischievous and always had people on their toes when she was around, from teasing her uncles by tapping their caps to running and laughing in her own special way.

In her later years Sharon became more handicapped but was still cared for by professionals who met her needs.

Sharon was known as her father’s special little motivator as she influenced his life in many ways. Even though her parents were not always near, she was always in his heart as well as her mother’s. Sharon was a blessing to all who knew her and she will always be loved until we all meet again.

She joins her Grandma Myra and Grandpa Francis, uncles, aunties, and many others who Journeyed.

The family thanks all who helped with our Sharon Rose in any way, small or not so small.
