Silvia J. Sloat, 84, of Gettysburg, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Avera Oahe Manor in Gettysburg, surrounded by her family.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gettysburg, with Father Brian Simon presiding. Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Hoven. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Silvia Jane Simon was born on April 27, 1940, in Hoven, SD, to William and Mildred (Schanzenbach) Simon. She graduated from Hoven High School in 1958.

In 1960, Silvia married Daniel J. Beringer, and together they had four sons: Monte, David, Wayne, and Christopher. Later in life, Silvia married Charles Eugene Sloat. They shared a passion for antiques, and together they opened West Side Antiques, which they operated for many years.

In her free time, Silvia enjoyed attending auctions, shopping for antiques, stamping, painting, collecting depression glass, refinishing furniture, and caring for her beloved cats.

Silvia will be forever remembered as a kind, strong-willed woman who touched the hearts of those around her.

She is survived by her sons: Monte, David (Shawn), and Wayne Beringer, all of Sioux Falls, and Christopher (Andre) Beringer of Mitchell; grandchildren: Danielle Moe, Patrick (Aleah) Perreault, Leah (Karen) Beringer, William (Kira) Beringer, and Andrew Beringer; great-grandchild, Phoebe Perreault; brother, Robert (Virginia) Simon of Hoven; and her cherished cat, Boogie.

Silvia is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Sloat; parents, Bill and Millie; her brother and his wife, Cliff and Patty Simon.

Here’s to a red beer in your honor, Silvia. Rest in peace.
