Sumiko Deuter
January 1, 1934 ~ August 3, 2025
Sumiko Deuter, 91, of Miller, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Good Samaritan Society in Miller.
A Celebration of Sumiko’s Life is planned for a later date when more members of the immediate family will be able to attend.
Sumiko was born January 1, 1934, to Yutaka and Misso Shidara in the prefecture of Chiba Ken, Japan. Sumiko met Maynard Deuter while he was stationed in Japan, and they were married on May 9, 1956, in Tokyo, Japan. From this union, three children were born.
The family travelled with Maynard to many places while in the Air Force. Assignments included Fuchu, Tachikawa, McGuire, Scott, Green Park, Kanto Mura, Yokota, Kingsley Field, and Keno Air Force Base/Station. While Maynard was in Vietnam, Sumiko and the children lived in Miller to be close to family. Ten years later, when Maynard retired, the family voted to move back to Miller to be close to Grandpa Charlie. Sumiko loved attending football games and track meets, as well as crocheting, quilting, and enjoying coffee with her friends. She could be seen most mornings walking her dachshunds around town and working in her flower garden.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Susan Deuter of St. Lawrence; Danny and Gloria Deuter of Schertz, Texas, and their sons, Charles and David; Victor and Teresa Deuter of Aberdeen and their sons, Anthony, Michael, and Denon; her sisters: Kuniko Noguchi and Haruyo Sasake; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard; her parents, Yutaka and Misso Shidara; and her sister, Tomoko Okamoto.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Sumiko’s arrangements.

As long as her memory lives in your heart, she will live forever.
With sincerest sympathy.

My sincerest sympathy Sue, Victor and Dan! I aways enjoyed the times I was able to visit. Your mom was truly a great person and so interesting to talk to.
I am so sorry to hear this. I always loved visiting with her. She was so sincere and genuine. I still have the Tea set she gave us for our wedding and the box it came in. I just used it a month ago when my granddaughters were here. It made me think so fondly of her.
So sorry to hear of the passing of your Mom. Thinking of you and your family at this sad time.
Sue, Dan & Victor, your mom was such a kind & gracious lady. She always stopped in to talk to my mom whenever she was in the neighborhood. They were friends from the hospital days. They ended up in the nursing home together. It was hard for them to visit because our mother is so hard of hearing. Mom has great memories of Sumiko and so do I . Hugs and prayers to all of you.
Susan, Danny and Victor,
Sorry for your loss. Your mom was such a sweetheart. She would take fresh flowers over to my folks sometimes. Always smiling and so kind. Hugs to all of you at this difficult time.
