Thomas G. Tassler, 78, of Harrold, passed away, Tuesday, April 10, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls.

Memorial service with military honors will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Harrold School Gym, Brita Beregson, officiating. 

Thomas George Tassler was born February 22, 1946, to Johnnie and Eunice (Cunningham) Tassler in Harrold, South Dakota. He grew up with his four siblings, Doug, Sharon, Don, and Kenneth, in Harrold. After high school, Tom served in the Army for 3 years and in the Vietnam War for nine months. While on a two-week furlough, he met the love of his life, Sandra McQuiston, in Pierre.

Tom and Sandra were married on September 2, 1969, in Tacoma, Washington. They returned to Harrold where they made their home and raised two children, Vivian and Johnnie.  He worked for the Hughes County Highway Department, retiring after 32 years. In retirement, Tom enjoyed working in his garage on vehicles and anything he could get his hands on. His grandkids were his life. He taught them many tricks and skills!

Tom is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughter, Vivian (Tim) Peterson of Owasso, OK; son, Johnnie (Kelli) Tassler of Presho; grandchildren:  Ashley (Nick) Casebier, Josh (Alexandria) Peterson, Jonathan “Bubba” Tassler, Joslynn Tassler, MJ Diehm, Chevi Diehm, and Destiny Tassler; great-grandson, Maverick; siblings: Sharon (Bill) Lengkeek of Presho, Don (Karen) Tassler of Pierre, and Kenneth (Vicki) Tassler of Pierre; as well as many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Eunice Tassler; brother, Doug Tassler; and parents-in-law: Fred and Irene McQuiston.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Tom's arrangements. 

A Memorial Service was held on April 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Harrold School Gym, 501 South Nixon St. in Harrold, SD 57536
