Tru Bruguier

Tru Bruguier, 37, of Kenel, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. CDT, Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Catholic Church, Kenel. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A wake service will be 7:00 p.m. CDT, Monday, September 29, 2025. There will be a procession at 5:00 p.m. CDT, from the Grand River Bay.

Tru was born on July 15, 1988, in Bismarck, ND, to Deanne Bear Catches and Merlin Bruguier. She attended the Standing Rock Grant School in Ft. Yates, ND, graduating with honors with the class of 2007.

Tru lived with her mother, Deanne, in Kenel, although she has lived in many other places including Missoula, MT, Tacoma, WA, and Bismarck, ND. Tru made her living by taking care of her nieces and nephews. She was a very talented artist, make-up artist, and champion hair braider for powwow dancers and basketball players.

Tru is survived by her Mother, Deanne Bear Catches of Kenel; three Brothers: Chase (Elena) of Billings, MT, Merlin Bruguier Jr., and Arlen Bruguier; four Sisters: Brittney Demery of Tacoma, WA, Collette, Maggie, and Ladawn Bruguier of Yankton, SD; Granddaughter, Oakley Ann Demery; Nieces: Isabella Johnson of Kenel, Truli Meim, Okinawa, Japan, and Aurora, Billings, MT; Special Nieces, Kariss Koy, Nia, Grace, and Sandee Sasha, Kenel; Nephews: Camree, Cassidy, Lane Cody, Parker, Keegan, and Colter of Kenel,  Raven and Dadriam, Billings, MT, LaYezzrah, Phoenix, AZ, Reil and Von of Tacoma, WA; Uncles: Dale “Dozer” Demery and Delray (Kerry) Demery both of Kenel; Aunts: Leslee “Penny” Demery, Claudia and Claudette Walking Elk, Rhea Bruguier, Judi Wasin Zi, Kenel, and Anita Many Wounds, Ft. Yates, ND; Cousins: Shilo, Nedda, Dylan, Tori, Santana, Aaron, Caine, Tucker, Christina, Hunter, Kiefer, Kaitlyn, Gunner and Kelsey; Grandmother, Shirley Poitra of Kenel. Tru is preceded in death by her late Maternal Grandparents, Leslie and Germaine (Left Hand) Demery; Paternal Grandparents, Matthew Bruguier and Velma Hawk Eagle; Great Grandmother, Marion Egna; Dad, Merlin Bruguier; Aunts: Fran, Truly, and Coleen Demery, and Lovonne “Lovey” St. John; Special Cousins: Lesley Rae Demery, Erica Howard, and D’Jay St. John.
