Verlin Blaseg, 86, of Wolsey, passed away Friday, September 17, 2021, at Highmore Health in Highmore.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 27, 2021, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Wolsey, with Rev. Scott Spiehs officiating.  Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Wolsey.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church.

Verlin Frank was born on September 11, 1935, in Hyde County, South Dakota to Walter Frank and ZeEtta (Nation) Blaseg.  After he graduated from Ree Heights High School, he married Edith Olson in Highmore.  Their long and blessed marriage started on October 19, 1962. 

He worked on the Oahe Dam project and ran dragline for Hines Construction, digging dugouts in North and South Dakota. Verlin was a school bus driver and mechanic for the Wolsey School District, he was a mechanic for Concrete Products in Huron and drove for Harms Oil until his retirement.  In 1970, Verlin moved from Miller to Wolsey. 

Verlin was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey.  He enjoyed fishing, especially when he could take the younger kids.  In his younger years, he enjoyed dancing and he loved spending time with family.  In more recent years, Verlin loved going for a nice drive or maybe even finding a casino to adventure into. 

He will be greatly missed by his loving family: son, Robert (Sherri) of Huron; daughter, Roberta Ransom of Parker; son, Paul of Wolsey; two granddaughters: Natashia (SSG Joshua) Baer and Brittany (Brandon) Wingert; four great-grandchildren: Hailey and Zachary Wingert and JoAnne and Emalyn Baer; sister, Marla (Rem) McGeorge; and one nephew, Justin (Tonia) McGeorge. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and younger brother, Robert. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Highmore Health, 410 8th Street SE, Highmore, S.D. 57345.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Verlin's arrangements.

  4. my family so enjoyed the visit Verlin and Edith made to Oregon one year. My Dad, his first cousin, kept in close touch with his Aunt Zee and her family. We were impressed by Verlin's work ethic Blessed be the men who worked on the dams around this great country of ours. You can now see the works from your place in heaven now. Love to your family.

  6. I never knew Verlin's real name until I was an adult. He always said you can call me what ever you want but never call me "to late for breakfast". So that is what we always called him–To Late for Breakfast! He delivered my sister and I our first bicycle on Christmas morning when we were just little girls. We thought he was pretty special! My sympathy to the family. Hugs and prayers.
