Vernon Larson
July 27, 1919 ~ October 7, 2009
Funeral services were 2:30 p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Gettysburg with Pastor Don Watt officiating. Burial followed in the Gettysburg Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation was held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the Luce Funeral Home in Gettysburg.
Vernon John Larson was born July 27, 1919 at Erwin, SD to John and Clara (Jensen) Larson. He attended country schools and Gettysburg High School. Vernon came to Potter County with his family in 1920. He enlisted in the United States Army on September 20, 1940 and served in Normandy, Iceland, Northern France and Rhineland. He was honorably discharged on July 20, 1945.
He met Doris Stoner, a school teacher and they were married on May 4, 1946. To this union, seven children were born. In 1953 they established their family farm four miles North of Gettysburg. He continued to farm and was later joined by his sons and grandsons
In 1975 he semi-retired and moved to their present home in Gettysburg where he enjoyed making keepsakes for his family in his beloved workshop. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and having coffee with the boys at “the office” (Ace Hardware).
Vernon was a member of the United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and was also a member of the Yelduz Shrine.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Doris Larson of Gettysburg; children: Ronnie (Gail) Larson, Vaughn (Stacy) Larson, Marsha (Dan) Osier and Sandra (Gary) Nagel all of Gettysburg, Rochelle (Jim) Borszich, Tammie (Jim) Musil and Lori (Dave) Corcoran all of Huron; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters: Elsie Muehl of Sturgis, Betty Lou Casey of Gettysburg and Phyllis Newland of Rapid City and a sister-in-law: Arlys Larson of Gettysburg.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; one sister, Lucille Bahrke and two brothers, Curtis and Harlan “Buster” Larson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be appreciated.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Vernon's arrangements.

Sandra and the Larson family…I have known your dad all my life and what I remember of him the most is his smile and twinkling eyes. We are so sorry for your loss, but I know he’s in heaven with God, my mom and dad. It was a special treat to see your dad at Jason’s wedding.
