Viola Holt

Viola L. Holt, 100, of Cresbard, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022, at the Faulkton Senior Living.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 9, 2022, at the United Methodist Church, Cresbard with Pastor Seth Duncan presiding. Burial will follow in the Cresbard Cemetery. Visitation will be one-hour prior to the service.
Viola L. “Toots” Young was born January 1, 1922, at home in Saratoga Township, Faulk County, South Dakota to Ansel “A.D.” and Jessie Marie (Davis) Young. Her birth was attended by Dr. Abby Jarvis. Viola attended country school in Saratoga Township and Faulkton High School.
On August 29, 1938, she married Joie H. Holt. They moved to a farm in Myron Township, Faulk County. She was blessed with raising three sons and one daughter. Alongside her husband, Viola helped raise registered Hereford cattle for many years. In 1968, they moved to Pierre where they built and managed Royal D and Royal H apartments until 1974 when they relocated to a small acreage west of Aberdeen. In 1990 they retired and moved to Cresbard. Joie passed away in 1993 and Viola continued to live in Cresbard until 2007 when she entered the Faulkton Senior Living.
Toots enjoyed reading, gardening, quilting, cooking, dancing, music, and playing the organ or piano. Joie and Viola enjoyed many hours going to their grandchildren and great grandchildren sporting events, school and church activities.
Viola was a member of the Cresbard United Methodist Church, UMW, past member of Faulkton Rebekah Lodge, and So & Sew Club.
Viola’s life will be cherished by her children: Darwin Holt, Sioux Falls and Darlys (Dennis) Holm, Cresbard; daughters-in-law: Karen Holt, Aberdeen and Shirley Bisbee Holt, Cresbard; 10 grandchildren: the late Kevin (Pam) Holt, Kurt (Lori) Holt, Justin (Kali) Holt, Jordan (Amanda) Holt, Bryan (Amy) Holt, Bobbi (Mark) Schramm, Brandi (Dan) Gueldner, Jason (Kathy) Holm, Nichole (Rob) Harrington, and James (Jakki) Holm; 26 great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joie; sons, Duane and Derald Holt; daughter-in-law: Wanda Holt; grandson, Kevin Holt; and siblings: Leta, Vivian, Albert, Roberta, Dorothy, and Olivene.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Viola’s arrangements.

I have such fond memories of Aunt Vi and the family in years past and am fortunate to remember her as she was before she became so ill. She was a beautiful person who will always be remembered. I hope thoughts of the love she gave, and good times spent bring the family peace and comfort. So sorry for your loss.
