Wanda Harrell
July 4, 1939 ~ October 29, 2021
Wanda Deuter Throop Harrell, 82, of Miller, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021, at Highmore Health in Highmore, SD.
Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 5, 2021, at the St. Lawrence Community Church with Pastor Will Page officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow the service at the St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Wanda was born July 4, 1939, in Miller to Charles and Clara (Miller) Deuter. Clara passed away shortly after birth. Wanda came to live with and eventually adopted by Harry and Grace (Deuter) Throop. Wanda attended VanZee Country School in northern Hand County, then attended Miller High School, graduating in 1957. She earned her LPN degree at the School of Practical Nursing in Mitchell, SD and began work at the Hand County Memorial Hospital after graduation.
Wanda was united in marriage to Max Harrell, August 15, 1965. They made their home in northern Hand County. To this union four children were born.
Wanda was a natural caretaker of all God’s creatures. This was evident early in life on the farm with a special fondness for horses, dogs, and birds. She demonstrated her love and compassion throughout her life while caring for family, parents, friends, and patients. Dropping in to offer whatever she could to help during challenging times was a common practice. She served in the nursing profession for over 40 years with attentive care to every patient and family in her charge. She shared her faith and love of Christ with everyone she met. Wanda’s pride and joy were her ten grandchildren. She made sure they had enough toys, brownies, and milkshakes during every visit. Christmas was an extra special time of year to invite her family to decorate the tree and bake cookies.
Wanda will be dearly missed by her husband: Max Harrell of Miller, SD; her children and grandchildren: Lynn and Trish Harrell of St. Lawrence, SD, and their sons: Colby and Ethan, Harry and Nancy Harrell of Miller, SD, and their sons: Remington, Gentry, and Sawyer, Darvin and Nichole Harrell of Bennett, CO and their children: Audrey and Kody, Arlene (Rick) Batin of Miller, SD and their children: Alvena, Eli and Garrett; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her biological parents: Charlie and Clara (Miller) Deuter, adoptive parents: Harry and Grace (Deuter) Throop; sister, Janice (Deuter) White; brother, Maynard Deuter; infant brother, Charles Deuter; and brothers: Dwight (Delores) Throop and Merlyn (Barbara) Throop.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Wanda's arrangements.
