Adam Lunders, son of Richard and Dori (Heintzman) Lunders, was born in Hoven on February 5, 1985. He was raised on the family farm 5 miles east of Hoven, attended Hoven Elementary School and graduated from Hoven High School as co-salutatorian of his class in 2003. Basketball, band, and track were among his favorite activities during high school. He had a kind and gentle spirit, with a love for his family, animals, music, and basketball.
Adam was living in Jackson, MN, where he was receiving mental health care. Adam struggled with a mental health illness over the past five years and passed away on June 4, 2011.
Adam is survived by his parents, Richard and Dori of Hoven, SD; sister Tessa (Tony) Ripley of Eagan, MN; sister Traci (Shelby) Means of Bismarck, ND; grandparents Roy and Phil Heintzman of Onaka, SD; two nephews, Cael Ripley and Jack Means; and one niece, Elise Ripley.
He was preceded in death by his sister, April, age 4, on July 5, 1986 and his grandparents James and Wilma Lunders.
Mental illness affects the very core of our being. It can steal our sense of self worth and our hopes and dreams for the future. Our faith reminds us that we are loved as a child of God…just as we are.
Isaiah 9:2,4 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; on those who lived in a land of deep shadow a light has shone. For the yoke that was weighing upon them and the burden upon their shoulders, thou hast broken in pieces O God.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Adam’s arrangements.

Rich, Dori & Family,
My heart goes out to you all throughout this tragic time! Adam was a very intelligent young man and had a heart of gold towards everyone when we were in high school that he will always be remembered for! I will always remember being in band in the saxophone section sitting next to Adam and when I would arrive he would jokingly say “surprise surprise Amanda, you’re LATE again!” and then he would chuckle and carry on! He was always very talented no matter what instrument he was playing you could tell he loved music 🙂 Many thoughts and prayers are being sent your way! Brent, Amanda, Brayden & Riley Weber

Words cannot convey the feeling of compassion at your loss. As a parent, we cannot even imagin the loss of a young family member, one of our children. We have memories of Adam being a wonderful young man and student of Dale’s who was always willing to work at Jr. concessions at HHS. May God’s blessings be upon all of you. We thank you for your openness at addressing Adam’s illness and feel others will try to understand his illness ,also, because of this brief education you are sharing.

I knew Adam very briefly and met him in passing while working on helping to restore New Orleans. We lost touch, but I would think about him from time to time. While trying to find him on facebook, I stumbled on this page. My heart and positive thoughts go out to his family and friends. I hope that he has found peace and will hold positive memories of him always. xo
To Adam's family, I only recently found his obituary while looking up past employees, I am so sorry. I was his manager at Pizza Hut, he was a great person and amazing worker. I left there in 2007 and lost touch with many. I am lucky to have had him as part of our Pizza Hut family while he attended SDSU. He is missed.
