Agnes M. Pape, 81, of Armour, passed away, Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Douglas County Memorial Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2009 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Armour with Fr. Albert Cizweski officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Parkston. Visitation with the family present was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the church with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.
Agnes Marie Mayer was born December 17, 1927 on a farm near Dimock, South Dakota to Joseph and Elizabeth (Kurtenbach) Mayer the seventh of eight children. She attended St. Peter and Paul Grade School and graduated from Parkston High School in 1945.
On October 22, 1946 she married Edwin Pape at Sioux Falls, SD and to this union seven children were born. They raised their family in Parkston where she worked at a number of places. In August 1977 the family moved to Armour. Here she worked for the local drug store for a short time.
Faith has always been a large part of Agnes’s life. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Armour where she served as a Eucharistic minister and was a member of the altar society. She also belonged to the Catholic Daughters at Sacred Heart Church in Parkston. Agnes was a member of the Parkston American Legion Auxiliary and the Armour V.F.W. Auxiliary.
In her spare time she loved to read, play cards, do word searches, watch the game show network and attend the gray hair coffee club.
Those left to cherish her life are her six children: Barb Husk of Overland Park, KS, Linda (Pete) Peterson of Kearney, NE, Tom (Patty Belgiorno) of Sewell, NJ, Bill (Diane) of Freeman, Dave (Patty) of Parkston and Mary (Dwight) Renshaw of Mitchell; 15 grandchildren: Rachel (Rich) Buckley of Sicklerville, NJ, Shana Husk of Overland Park, KS, Paul Fritzler, Omaha, NE, Dana Pape, Maple Grove, MN, Tom (Kathy) Pape of Mt. Royal, NJ, Sarah (John) Zulkoski of Kearney, NE, Mandy (Joel) Luikens of Gettysburg, Tiffany (Kevin) Hofer of Miller, Jason (Tonya) Pape, Chillicothe, IL, Rebekah (Brian) Moritz of Omaha, NE, Lindsay (John) Neth of Tea, Kristen Pape of Omaha, NE, Brooke Pape of Freeman and Trevor and Morgan Renshaw of Mitchell; eight great grandchildren: Rachael Kloth, Hannah Buckley, Aaron and Colin Pape, Grant & Carter Luikens, Hannah Pape and Grace Hofer; three siblings: Rosaline Mayer of Parkston, Cleo Mayer of Alameda, CA and Jerry (Berniece) Mayer of Sioux Falls.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Edwin in 1996; son, Charles; grandson, Mark Husk; two brothers: Norbert (Alma) Mayer and Urban Mayer and two sisters: Wilhelmina (Clarence) Roeder and Millie (Virgil) Adams.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Agnes's arrangements.
