Aleta Estelle Bearstops was born January 14, 1973 in Eagle Butte, SD to Aurelia L. Swan and the late Gillis J. Bearstops Sr. She attended school in Cherry Creek, Takini, Pierre, Menon, Idaho, Billings, Montana, Provo, Utah, Chicago, Illinois and Spanish Fork, Utah.
Aleta was a very strong, proud, loving, caring, kind and giving person. She helped anyone that came to her in need. She was always alone, sitting in the shade or on the back porch with her ice water. She would say “oh well” or “whatever” and never complain about her health. She just quietly, without a sound, she would slip away.
Aleta is survived by her children: Jovonne “Jo”, Veronica “Bungas”, Maria Isabelle “Belle”, Juan “Jesse”, Maria Guadalupe “Lupita” and Martha; grandchildren: Opelia, and Oliver, Mauricia and Kaden Romero-Vargas; her mother, Aurelia Swan; her siblings: Angeli (Bearstops) Chavez, Gillis Bearstops Jr., Madonna Bearstops, Madonna Morrison, Lumanuel and Lucy Two Two.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gillis Bearstops Sr.; grandparents: Manuel and Angeline Condon Swan and Pete and Margaret Lone Eagle Bearstops; brother, Alwin Swan; cousins, Shurran Swan, Alicia Straight Head, Mary Bearstops, Willie Antonio Jr. and all the grandmas and grandpas. If we have forgotten any of her relatives or friends, please accept our apologies.
Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Aleta’s arrangements.

My sincere condolences to the family of Aleta Stops. May you find comfort in your loving memories, and in God’s promise to soon "swallow up death forever" and "wipe away the tears from all faces." (Isaiah 25;8) With deepest sympathy,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time and in the future. Time may pass and loved ones may go on before us, but our love and respect for them will never cease.
to Aleta Bearstops family: I’m so sorry for the death of your mother and dear friend Aleta. Being a full time Minister, two bible scriptures that come to mind is Isaiah chap 25 verse 8 where Almighty God tells us that one day he "will swallow up death forever." And at Isaiah chap 33 verse 24 he assures us "no one will be sick." Just think world with no sickness or death! These promises will come true when Gods Kingdom rules this earth. So as you reflect on your memories with Aleta, remember the promises of the God who as Titus 1:2 says "Cant lie."
