Alvina Kathrene was born July 9, 1910 to Clara and Otto Voigt. She lived in Lebanon with her parents, sister, Irene and a brother, Alvin. Alvina attended school in Lebanon and went on to Nursing School in Aberdeen.

Alvina married Clarence Sunding on March 1, 1933 in Lebanon. They lived in Highmore and she ran a maternity home for several years. Both Loren and Joyce were born while they lived in Highmore. They moved to the family farm in Douglas Township north of Highmore. Bruce and John were born while they lived on the farm. All the children attended Douglas Township School.

After the two younger boys were in High School, Alvina went back to her beloved profession of nursing. She worked for Dr. Avotins in Faulkton and at a nursing home in Faulkton for over thirty years.

In 1980, they built a new house in Highmore and moved to town. Alvina enjoyed traveling with Clarence. Together they traveled to Texas, California and Idaho visiting children and other relatives.

Alvina loved working with her flowers and really enjoyed the gardening after moving to town. She especially likes roses. She also enjoyed playing cards of all kinds.

Alvina lived in her home until two years ago when she entered the Highmore Health Care Center.

Guestbook

  1. My deepest sympathy goes out to all in the family. Alvina was a woman of grace, poise, and strong determination is what ever she was doing. Her love and pride of family was something she spoke often of. And how she loved her garden, especially her roses. She was proud of her nursing career and of being able to help bring many babies into this world. So very talented, her paintings and needle work were beautiful. I thank you for allowing me the privilege of knowing and working with Alvina. She is surely our little ‘Angel’ Alvina now.

  2. She was a true Pioneer and had a very gentle spirit. I grew up North of Highmore and have known about the Sunding family all my life. Sorry I will not be able to be at the Services, but you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. JoAnn

  3. My sympathies to all of the family. She was a great lady who
    will be missed. Genora
