Anthony A. Red Bird, 51, of Mobridge, passed away Monday, October 10, 2011 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, ND.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., MT, Saturday, October 15, 2011 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte with Fr. Les Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cemetery, LaPlant. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church.

Anthony Allen Red Bird was born to Eugene Red Bird and Donna Joyce Gilbert Martin on May 7, 1960 in Eagle Butte, SD. He attended school in Flandreau, graduating in 1978, where he enjoyed playing basketball.

Anthony joined the United States Army following high school. On February 14, 1989 he married Hazel Jaylene (Bahe) Red Bird. Two children were born to this union: Toni and Antonio.

Later on Anthony went to live with his grandmas, Marguerite Gilbert and Thelma Brown, on the Gilbert Ranch. He remained there until Marguerite’s death. He then moved to be with his brother, Lucas in 2004 until entering the Golden Living Center in Mobridge in July of 2011.

Anthony spent his free time watching his favorite TV shows, golfing, and watching the Minnesota Vikings play football. He also enjoyed playing board games, listening to music and talking with his family.

Anthony “Bunky” was loved by his children and will always be the best part of their lives.

He is survived by his children: Charity Hope Ashley Miller of Pierre, Toni Jaylene Red Bird and Antonio Allen Red Bird both of AZ; his grandchildren: Usha Lakota Red Bird and Antonio Allen Red Bird, Jr.; his siblings: Kelly J Martin, Sarah L. Martin and Lucas J Martin all of Mobridge and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Anthony was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Red Bird and mother, Donna J. Gilbert Martin; brothers: Gibson Garrett, Jason Jay Martin and Matthew Jordan Martin; grandmas: Marguerite Gilbert and Thelma Brown and one uncle, Vincent “Butch” Charles.

Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Anthony’s arrangements.
