Arlie Spangler

Arlie Spangler, 86, of Faulkton, passed away, Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Faulkton Senior Living, Faulkton.
Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the United Church of Faulkton with Pastor Bill Hoffman presiding. Burial of his cremains will take place at a later date in the Oakland Cemetery, Seneca.
Arlie Melroy Spangler was born April 1, 1929 to Albert and Sara (Harvey) Spangler in Westport, SD. He received his education at Westport and Hulett, WY.
On April 24, 1954, Arlie was united in marriage to Leta Laverne Morse at the United Methodist Church in Seneca. They made their home in Seneca until Arlie left to serve in the United States Army, serving from August 4, 1955 to August 2, 1957. He was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas and in Germany.
Arlie believed in the value of helping others and always showed a tremendous work ethic in order to provide for his family and to provide a service to all he knew. He was a soldier, a mechanic, Chief of Police, city employee and truck owner and operator for over 30+ years. In his spare time he enjoyed working with cars, building race car engines for local drivers and helping local truckers and farmers by keeping their machines operating and their motors running smoothly. And always visiting with friends, and enjoying a cup of coffee. Arlie was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and the United Methodist Church.
His life will be cherished by his wife, Laverne of Faulkton; his children: Curt (Sharon) Spangler of Miller, Albert Spangler of Pierre, Jon (Jennifer) Spangler of Atlanta, GA and Arleta Spangler of Faulkton; his grandchildren: Michelle (Todd) Biedenfield and son of New Brighton, MN, Lindsay (Josh) Boomsma and daughters of Miller, Amber (Dickson) Bast and children of Highmore, Dusty Spangler of Denver, CO, Derek Spangler of Minneapolis, MN, Skylar Spangler, Allen “AJ” Spangler of Aberdeen and Lars Spangler of Faulkton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Albert & Bill Spangler, Rose Holmes, Cora Cozart and Martha Tiegen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Faulkton American Legion.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Arlie’s arrangements.




I am so very sorry in the loss of such a great man! He will truly be missed, by many! My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

I became acquainted with Arlie when I was driving Hanson’s freightliner in 1979 back from the cities. Arlie and I visited on the cb radio all the way back from Watertown. Great man.
