Arthur P. Ingle, 99, of Harrold, passed away, Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2008 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Harrold with Fr. Paul Nereparmpil officiating. Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Harrold. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Highmore with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.
Arthur P. Ingle was born October 22, 1909 at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin to Joseph and Julia (Stram) Ingle. He attended school in Wisconsin until his family moved to Salem, South Dakota in 1919. They spent one year there prior to relocating to Harrold in 1920. Arthur graduated from Harrold High School in 1927 and then went on to receive his teaching certificate from Madison College.
On May 22, 1933 he married Mary Ann Tassler, to this union three children were born.
Arthur spent the years leading up to 1934 teaching students in the Kennebec and Hyde County Schools. In 1935 he became the Postmaster in Harrold where he remained for the next 34 years, leaving in February of 1969. At this time Arthur considered himself retired but continued to educate himself. He received his broker and insurance license which allowed him to run his agency until 1978 when he sold to the First State Bank of Highmore.
Many of Arthur’s days were spent with family and friends enjoying his hobbies. They included hunting, fishing, bowling, golf and carpentry. He also stayed very active with the National Organization of Postmasters, the Harrold Civic Club, School and Town Boards and the Knights of Columbus. Arthur was also instrumental in organizing the Harrold March of Dimes. But above all he had a love for the farm and ranch. He took pride in the fact that he purchased his first cow in 1943 and continued to build the farm and ranch interest until 1976.
Arthur’s life will be cherished by his children: Lola (Marty) Stiefel, Harrold, Ronald (Beverly), Pierre and Robert, Harrold; twelve grandchildren: Linda (Robert) Helvik, Glendale, AZ, Doyle (Diana) Stiefel, Renner, Peggy (Jim) Lappe, Pierre, Jeanie (Dean) Ritter, Harrold, Sandra (Rick) Alley, El Paso, TX, John (Julie Ann) Stiefel, N. Mankato, MN, Julienne (Troy) Briggs, Palmyra, PA, Audrea (Rob) Telkamp, Rapid City, Connie Strahl, Rapid City, Debra Ingle, Harrold and Joel (Renee) Ingle, Garretson; twenty-six great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Eunice Tassler, Pierre and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his spouse Mary Ann; parents; three sisters: Florence Ingle, Beatrice “Gen” Axmaker and Bernadette “Toots” Freeland; six brothers: Jack, Mark, Charles “Chuck”, Donald, George “Jud” and Cyril; daughter-in-law: Patricia Ingle; brother-in-law: John Tassler and grandson-in-law, Kevin Strahl.

Nothing but good thing’s,to say about Art. He was a good friend of my father, and I’m glad he made it to 100.Durry Motor’s can now rest in pease. Know there’s a lot of strikes up there. God bless them all!
