Audrey Oligmueller, 77, of Miller, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at her home, joining her daughter, Shawn, in heaven.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 1, 2015 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller with Father Chester Murtha, celebrant. Burial followed at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Miller. Visitation began at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2015 with a 5:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.

Audrey was born December 3, 1937 in Huron, South Dakota to Thomas and Myrrle (Wissler) Thompson of Alpena, South Dakota. Audrey received her education at Alpena Public School and graduated in 1955. She attended St. John’s School of Nursing in Huron, South Dakota. She began her nursing career at the Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller, moved to the Prairie Good Samaritan Center in Miller, and finished her nursing career at the Highmore Health Care Center.

On September 25, 1958, she married William “Bill” Oligmueller at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Huron, South Dakota. In September of 1959, she and Bill moved to a farm about 20 miles north of Miller, where they raised their family until 1998 when they moved into the town of Miller.

Audrey was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller Kiwanis Club, and the SDSU Jackrabbit Club. She loved her Miller Rustlers’, where she very much enjoyed the sporting events.

Privileged to have shared her life are her husband: William J. Oligmueller of Miller; children: Meri (Michael) Fischer of North Carolina, Todd (Susan) Oligmueller of Pierre, SD, and Suzanne (Bob) Murphy of Elk Point, SD; grandchildren: Amanda (Patrick) Northern of Okinawa, Japan, Joseph (Jordan-Lynn) Fischer of North Carolina, Kelsey (Matt) McQuistion of Pierre, SD Allyson Murphy of Rochester, MN, Nick Murphy of Aberdeen, SD, and Michael Murphy of Elk Point, SD; great-grandchildren: Cannon and Tanner Northern of Okinawa, Japan and Dean McQuistion of Pierre, SD; and her two sisters: Kaye Wagner and Janiece Thompson, both of Huron, SD.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Shawn Oligmueller; and her parents.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Audrey’s arrangements.

  1. Bill & Family, I am so sorry to hear of Audrey;s passing. I always enjoyed time spent with Audrey, never a dull moment! It will be the little things you remember,
    the quiet moments (were there ever quiet moments?), the smiles, the laughter, maybe even a tradition. And although it may seem hard right now, it will be the memories of these little things that help push away the pain and bring the smiles back again.

  4. I am heartbroken over the news of Audrey’s death. She is now at peace with her Shawn. Bill and family please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

  5. I know that Audrey is at peace in heaven. I will miss her terribly. Who will call me to find out what was happening —-and I never knew. Who will I take to Pierre or Brookings so that we can see her "Baby Dean" or just because we wanted to go on a road trip. Oh yes, I have lots of memories and I will miss her.

I was fortunate to run into Audrey-O twice in Miller during just the past year and we laughed (loudly) and remembered so many good times from back in the late 70’s and early 80’s (we agreed that we were both MUCH more fun back then). Bill . . Meri . . Todd/Susie . . Suzanne . . . my sincere condolences. Audrey-O was one-of-a-kind and will be missed by all of us who had the great pleasure of being her pal.

  18. I’m so very sorry for your loss. Audrey was always so good to me. When I worked at the nursing home with her she was always so nice and if I needed an attitude adjustment she provided that too. 🙂 I have a lot of respect for Audrey and will miss her dearly. Sending much love and hugs to Bill and all the kids. What a wonderful family!

    I worked at the nursing home in Miller many years ago and Audrey was not only my director of nursing she was my friend. She was a wonderful person and I knew she always had my back. She touched many lives and will be missed. My deepest sympathy to all of you.

She enjoyed visiting with anyone that had a minute to listen! She will be pleased to be in heaven with Shawn, as I know that was a difficult time for her. Peace is with her.
