Barbara Anne Blaine, 63, of Fort Thompson, went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 20, 2020 at St. Joseph Church, Fort Thompson.  Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, Fort Thompson.  A wake service was held at 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at the church with a procession from Luze Funeral Home, Highmore at 4:00 p.m.

Barbara was born on January 2, 1957 to Rudolph Vincent and Elizabeth Marie (His Chase) St. John in Fort Yates, North Dakota. Her Siblings: Lawrence St. John, Mary Lou St. John, Kathy (St. John) Hawk, Michael St. John, Wanda St. John, Donovan Bendickson, Sharon St. John.

Barbara chose her life partner, Nelson Raymond Blaine Jr, and. they began living together on April 21, 1977; married by J P on March 14, 1978; Marriage was Blessed at St Joseph’s Catholic Church on March 14th, 1983. They were blessed with 10 children: Suzanne Blaine, Serina (Blaine) Ross, Desiree Blaine, Barnabas Blaine, Nelson Blaine III, Delta (Blaine) Black Hawk, Mark (Stengel) Blaine, Solomon (His Law) Blaine, Jarelle (His Law) Blaine, and Kolby (Stuffen) Blaine.  Barbara and Nelson raised their four grandchildren from Suzanne who passed away in 2005: Micah Blaine, Jared Blaine, Rain Blaine, and Julianne Blaine.  Barbara and Nelson also raised three grandchildren from Serina who passed away in 2015: Vincent Brown, Harriet Ross, and Chance Blaine.  Barbara and Nelson have Kobe Stuefen since 2010.

Barbara attended school at Pierre Indian Learning Center, later she received her G.E.D. and attended college at St. Mary’s College, Lower Brule Community College, University of South Dakota, Sinte Gleshka.

Barbara was a home maker she was a very loving and caring mother, she raised her children, Grand Children and briefly raised nieces and nephews of various family members when needed. She had a big heart and wore it on her sleeve. Later Barbara worked as a Head Start teacher and a case management worker for Head Start. Barbara and Nelson received a plaque from Crow Creek Sioux Tribe recognizing Barbara and Nelson as Foster Parents and helping the future of Crow Creek Sioux Tribe. Barbara and Nelson were Team Leaders for Sister Charles Marriage Encounter Week End since the mid-eighties to the late nineties.

Barbara was one of a kind she could bring a smile to anyone’s face, she was friendly, she liked to joke around, she was a very good listener, she never had anything negative to say about anyone, she always looked at the bright side of things, she stayed positive. Though she was in lots of pain she never led anyone to believe it, she never complained of her pain she dealt with it, handled it well and lived her life.

Barbara is survived by her Husband Nelson Blaine Jr.; her daughters: Desiree Blaine, Delta (Blaine) Black Hawk of all of Ft. Thompson; her sons: Mark (Stengel) Blaine of Ft. Thompson, Solomon (His Law) Blaine of Vermillion, Jarelle (His Law) Blaine of Springfield, and Kolby (Stuffen) Blaine of Ft. Thompson; her grandchildren: Micah Blaine of Bismarck, ND, Jared Blaine of Oklahoma, Rain Blaine of Colorado, Julianne Blaine of Rapid City, Vincent Brown, Harriett Ross, Chance Blaine, Barnabus Black Hawk, all of Ft. Thompson, Kambriel Stengel, Julia Stengel of New Town, ND, Laila His Law of Vermillion, J’Lee His Lawof (Ft. Thompson; her great grandchildren: Olivia Blaine, Michael Blaine, Na’Loni Blaine, Jaxson Blaine, all of Bismarck, ND, Aaliyah Blaine of Pierre, Suzie Whipple of South Dakota, Roberta Blaine of Crow Creek, Karen Fredericks, Dakota Fallis Jr., Harper Fallis, Loverina Ross, all of Ft. Thompson and her siblings: Wanda St. John, Donovan Bendickson, Sharon St. John.

Barbara is proceeded in death by her grandparents: Pius His Chase and Rose (Black Tongue) His Chase; parents: Rudolph St. John and Elizabeth (His Chase) St. John; siblings: Lawrence St. John, Mary Lou St. John, Kathy (St. John) Hawk, Michael St. John her Daughters: Suzanne Blaine, and Serina (Blaine) Ross; sons: Barnabas Blaine, Nelson Blaine III; and grandchild: Winter Blaine.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Barbara’s arrangements.
