Barbara Anna Belzer was born March 29, 1938 to Edward James Markle and Ruth Viola (Grinstead) Markle at New Hampton, IA. The family moved to Dutton, MT, to the farm her Dad had homesteaded when she was a year old. A sister, Rose Mary and brother, Jim were added to the family. Barbara began her schooling in Dutton, and continued in Great Falls, MT, when the family moved there because of her Dad?s health problems. When Barbara was 11 years old, her Father died. Her mother was advised to move the family to Nampa, ID, as it was a great place for a young widow lady to raise her family.

Barbara graduated from High School in 1956. She then enrolled in college at NNC (Northwest Nazarene College), where she completed two years of study. It was there she met and married David A Belzer, on June 5, 1958. To this union, three children were born: Dennis, Judith, and Edward.

After David finished his college days, they moved to Aberdeen, SD where they pastored the Aberdeen Church of the Nazarene from June, 1961 to January, 1966. They then moved to Miller, SD to pastor the Miller Church of the Nazarene until June, 1981. Barbara played the piano and sang with her husband, and was deeply involved in these ministries. From 1981 to 2012, she traveled and shared with her husband, in an itinerant ministry, as they preached in revival meetings and sang in 33 states.

They returned to St Lawrence, SD in 2006 to have a retirement home, after spending the majority of the last 30 years living in travel trailers along the roadways of America.

Guestbook

  1. I am sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Belzer. Although I didn’t know her well, she was a neighbor to my parents, Fred and Evelyn, and from their friendship I learned of Barbara’s kind and friendly manner. I send my condolences to Mr. Belzer and family, wishing them peace and cherished memories.

  2. Rev. Dave and family; please know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers! I was blessed to have known Barb. She will be missed by many. God’s blessings to all of you.
    Love Marla

  4. Cookie
My childhood is dotted with magical visits from you both. God knew when we needed you in White River whether it be a revival or to fix the roof. I remember your quiet demeanor, quick quips, and graceful fingers at the piano. You set an example in life; one of quiet faithfulness. Thank you for your selfless travelling, for your generous giving of your time, energies, and talents. You have made a difference in my life.

  5. Pastor Dave,
Katherine and I were so sorry to hear the sad news of Barb’s passing. The two of you have been such good friends and supporters of my brother Hiram. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

  8. Dennis – I just learned of your mother’s passing. I am out of town and will be unable to attend her services. My thoughts are with you during this time of loss.

  9. To the Belzer Family: I was shocked to find Barbara’s obituary online. She lived life for Christ and was truly interested in winning souls to the Lord. May your wonderful memories touch your heart as the Lord brings you though this difficult time, but knowing she is with our Father in Heaven right now. May God bless you all as she blessed many.

  10. Standing with the Belzer family as they bid temporary fare-thee-well to their precious matriarch, Barbara.

The Belzers were very gracious to our family when we moved to South Dakota, midway thru their 15 years in Miller. (We moved to Spencer in 1974)

The way the children of Dave & Barbara have conducted their lives is testament to their mom and dad. Barbara–A wonderful, sweet lady!
