Barbara Sautner, 83, of Gettysburg, died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Pierre.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 10, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gettysburg with Fr. Jerry Kopel officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 9, 2010 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Luce Funeral Home in Gettysburg.

Barbara Rose Soloman was born on March 24, 1927 at Gettysburg, SD to Jim and Doris (Collar) Soloman. She was raised in Gettysburg and attended Gettysburg School until the 8th grade.

She met Peter Paul Sautner at a dance and started dating. Peter left for the service a week later. They were married July 8, 1944 at Lebanon, PA. Barbara came back to South Dakota and Peter returned November 1945. They started their home at the old Ed Sautner farm. They farmed the homestead until they moved into town in 1952. Barbara worked at Gettysburg Memorial Hospital for five years. They resided in Gettysburg until moving to Pierre in April of 2009.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Peter Sautner of Pierre; four children: Larry Sautner and Fran of Mitchell, Jerry (Cheryl) Sautner of Gettysburg, Richard (Jody) Sautner of Pierre and Jeanelle (Jeff) Schaefer of Hoven; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sharie Sautner, who died in childbirth; sister, Cecelia Hill; half-brother; and mother-in-law, Mary Sautner.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Barbara's arrangements.
