Beatrice Hoven was born, October 23, 1917 to Peter M. and Frances K. (Baloun) Hoven on the rural family farm near Tolstoy. She was the granddaughter of Peter J. Hoven. Beatrice graduated from Lebanon High School in 1936. Following her father’s wishes of a formal advanced education, she pursued and completed a business degree from what is now the University of Sioux Falls.
Electing to spurn the traditional pioneer women path, she broke through the stereotyped barrier and embarked on a 38-year career with the federal government with assignments in Sioux Falls, Denver, and Washington D.C. She retired from her career in 1978 and began a new chapter of life which was the love of travel, with numerous adventures to Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, and North America. She also made monthly trips to visit her parents during their retirement in Gettysburg, South Dakota, and then later times at the Oahe Manor in Gettysburg.
She was always true to her values of faith, family, friends, and her Hoven heritage. Beatrice was never married and, per her wishes, will be laid to rest next to her parents at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Gettysburg.
Beatrice is survived by her Sister-in-law, Shirley Hoven; Nephews Mark (Sandy) and Brooks (Brenda) Hoven; Nieces Tina & Kelli Hoven and Marcia Kennedy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Emerson J. and Melvin P. Hoven.
