Betty Johnson, 81, of Miller, died Tuesday, December 16 at the Avera Hand County Hospital. Bettys memorial service will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 19th at the Rembold Funeral Home in St. Lawrence with Pastor Calvin Jones officiating.

Betty Jean Shafer was born April 14, 1927 at Tekamah, Nebraska to Bill and Jane (Bowers) Shafer. She went to school through the 6th grade, but quit to help her father shovel coal and unload lumber at the town lumberyard.

Betty moved to Miller in 1950. She helped Oliver Johnson work his farms in Hand County. Betty moved to town around 1963 after Olivers death.

Betty helped local people with odd jobs. She enjoyed going to coffee, playing bingo, and fishing. She often went to Highmore to play bingo with her friends. She loved going to the Good Samaritan Center and the Assisted Living Center for their church services. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Miller.

Survivors include one sister Elizabeth Knight of Omaha, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Robert Shafer, husband Oliver Johnson, sisters Mary and Geneva, and brother Billy.
