beverly holsing

July 31, 1937 ~ October 28, 2016

Beverly Holsing, age 79, of Faulkton/Aberdeen, was called to her heavenly home on October 28, 2016, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wecota with Pastor Timothy Koch presiding. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 1, 2016 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wecota.

Beverly Ann Smith was given her first breath of life by the Lord on July 31, 1937, the daughter of Carl and Mae (Olson) Smith.  She became a member of the body of Christ through her baptism at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Willow Lake on September 19, 1937.  On April 2, 1950, she publicly affirmed her faith in the living God when she was confirmed at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Faulkton, choosing Matthew 18:20 as her confirmation verse - “For where two or three of them are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them.”

Beverly grew up in Faulkton with her mother and loving step father, Harold Burr. She graduated from Faulkton High School in 1955 and then Northern State Teachers College. After graduation, she began working at Faulk County State Bank.  The business acumen she developed there carried through her entire life and business ventures with her husband.  She married the love of her life, Gene Holsing, on June 1, 1958.  It was a love she cherished through sickness and health for 58 years or marriage.  She also cherished the time she spent helping draw others closer to the Lord at Immanuel Lutheran Church through her work as an organist, choir director, and teacher of both Sunday school and Bethel Bible Study.

Beverly was an accomplished musician who spent her life sharing her gifts by teaching piano lessons, accompanying children’s groups, and performing at weddings and various public functions.  When she wasn’t sitting at a piano, she could frequently be found watching football.  Aside from her faith, her greatest joys in this life were spending time with her children and grandchildren and travelling the world with her husband.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved family.   This includes her four daughters: Lori (Kurt) Holt of Wecota, SD, Lisa (Pat) Eichinger of York, NE, Vicki (Mark) Melius of Lincoln, NE, and Leslie (Riley) McKeown of Richfield, MN.  Beverly was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Nick Holt and Gene (Lora) Holt of Wecota, SD, Matthew Eichinger (fiancé, Laura Robinson) of Orange County, California, Melissa Eichinger, Alex Melius, and Adam Melius of Lincoln, Nebraska, Ben McKeown and Sam McKeown of Richfield, Minnesota, as well as great-granddaughter Ryan Holt and great- grandson Zane Holt of Wecota.  She is also survived by her baby sister Diane Burr of Valley City, ND and brother Jerry (Kathy) Smith of Sioux Falls, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene, her mother Mae Burr, her step father Harold Burr and her father Carl Smith.

In lieu of flowers, please send any memorials to the Faulk County Cancer Support Group, PO Box 100, Faulkton, SD 57438.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Beverly’s arrangements.

She took piano lessons from my great aunt Inez Clifford and excelled in music. I have many precious memories of her and Gene especially at the yearly class reunions. I am praying for her family for peace and comfort.

  14. Lisa and family, We are so sorry for your loss. The pain of losing your mother is a heartbreak and pain like no other. We know they are in heaven, in the presence of our Lord. Their pain is gone. They are surrounded by a joy and love that is beyond human understanding. They are whole again in everlasting life because of their faith in Christ Jesus. We do not weep for them, but for ourselves and those we love still here on earth. I pray that all those who know and love your mom will feel God’s loving arms wrapped around them. I pray that you all may find comfort in memories and have laughter through the tears. May you all, with time, find "the peace that passes all understanding". My Mom would want me to remind you Lisa.."This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it" Psalms 118:24. Love Kimm
