Brenda Jo Thares, 53, of Faulkton, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014 at her home.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the United Church of Faulkton with Pastor Bill Hoffman officiating. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Brenda’s Home southeast of Faulkton.

Brenda Jo Hutchinson was born February 22, 1961 in Redfield, SD to Bill and Beverly (Hagedorn) Hutchinson. She grew up in the Faulkton area graduating from Faulkton High School in 1979.

On August 16, 1979, Brenda married Larry Thares. To this union, one daughter Liza was born. Brenda worked as a CNA at the Faulkton Hospital and went on to receive her nurse’s degree from Presentation College in Aberdeen.

She traveled the states, working as a nurse while she lived in Colorado and Louisiana, where her daughter Dancy was born. In 1991 Brenda returned to Faulkton and went to work for the Faulkton Healthcare Center as director of nursing. Later she became the assistant director of nursing for the Faulkton Area Medical Center.

Brenda enjoyed spending her free time doing crafts, reading, working with her plants and dogs and spending time with family. She was a member of the VFW and the Legion Auxiliaries.

Brenda’s life will be treasured by her children: Liza Jo Thares (Kyle Wahlen) of Aberdeen and Dancy Jo (Trey) Maxwell of Stonewall, LA; her mother, Beverly Biedenfeld of Faulkton; her siblings: John (Deb) Hutchinson of Fairbanks, AK, Jeanne (Barney) Lesselyoung, Marv (Pam) Hutchinson, Peg Speck (Kevin Mutsch), Lori Speck, and Jeff Hutchinson, all of Faulkton; step-siblings: Dennis (Julie) Biedenfeld, Barb (Gene) Schaefers, Nancy (Warren) Schatz, and Janet Poeppel; mother-in-law, Lucy Thares; several nieces and nephews; and her pets: Onyx and Dasha.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Hutchinson; stepfather, Don Biedenfeld; half brother, William Hutchinson; nephew, Travis Speck, and father-in-law, Walt Thares.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Brenda’s arrangements.

  2. My heart is aching as I lose this special classmate. Brenda had the heart of gold and was always helping others. She recently was my nurse at a visit to the ER and I found such comfort in having her there with me. My deepest Sympathy to all of her family.

I enjoyed getting to know Brenda and also enjoyed working with her for many years. She was a great coworker and friend. Brenda was a wonderfully gifted nurse who always gave her all to those she cared for in the hospital setting or elsewhere. She loved her family, friends and career.   5. What a great loss of a very talented person! Having went to high school with her and working with her in the medical profession, I was always inspired by her knowledge and passion.     I am sorry for loss and I pray that you will find peace knowing how much your mom loved you. I worked with Brenda for several years and know that you meant the world to her. She was such a giving person, always sacrificing for others and always willing to be a helping hand and shoulder to lean on.
