Carol Ann Blue Coat was born December 25, 1936 in Whitehorse, SD to Robert and Lillian (Horse with Horns) Blue Coat. She married Franklin David Thompson and to this union two sons were born, whom she loved and honored tremendously, Gregory Briney Thompson and Marty Lewis Thompson. Over the years, Ann would care not only for the sons she loved so much, but her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and hunka family - whom she would always open her home to, with warm laughter and hot food. She was never one to turn away a person in need.
Ann worked all her life in the service of others; from cooking for the elderly and little ones at the Nutrition Center and the Headstart, to caring for the elderly in the Manor. She also held various jobs throughout her lifetime and always took pride in her work, and care for others with respect and dignity. She was always willing to volunteer as well, spending much of her elderly life helping in the Soup Kitchen, cooking at Sundance, and helping to cook and serve for families during their trialing times; you could always count on Ann to lend a helping hand.
Ann loved attending Sundance, Wacipi, visiting on the phone with friends and families, and all who kept her company each day; whether it was while having a cup of coffee and visiting at her kitchen table, or miles away on the phone. Her family and friends will miss her voice and laughter.
Her survivors include her sons: Greg (Shelly) Thompson of LaPlant, Marty (Leslie) Thompson of Eagle Butte, Richard Red Elk of Eagle Butte; daughters: Gayle Dupris of Eagle Butte, Carrie and Carla Blue Coat of Eagle Butte, Nancy Red Dog of Eagle Butte, Candace High Elk of Eagle Butte, and Sylvia (Jim) Picotte of On The Tree; grandchildren: C.C. Smith, Skye Walker Lewis, Tammy Joy, Kayo Ann, Kaitlyn Rose, Jared Charles, Jeffrie Marie, Jamie Lynn, Andrew Smith, Joann Kills Crow and Richard “Bubba” Smith; great grandchildren: Kayson, Logan, Jarred, Treyton, Kemper, Mahpiya, Mikaiden, Akicita, Lennix, Shannon, Jayke, Areenah Jo, and two on the way - Carol loved all of her grandchildren dearly; sisters: Margie Blue Coat and Rose Bad Hand; brother, Joe Blue Coat and Hunka niece, PJ Crouch.
Carol Ann is preceded in death by her parents: Lillian and Robert Blue Coat; her brothers, Jerry and Robert Archie Blue Coat; sisters: Alberta Hawk Eagle, Ruby Red Dog and Cora Mae Marshall; and grandchildren, Logan and Baby Thompson.
Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Carol Ann’s arrangements.

Bless u gma for all the thinga u have done for all of ur family – U are going to be deeply missed! :'(
Greg and Marty, I was saddened to hear of the news of Aunt Annie passing. I pray for the Lord to send forth his angels to comfort and bring peace in knowing that she is now with the Lord. Your mother was also a mother to me and like she said I was her baby. I am really going to miss her and her kind smile. I find peace in knowing she doesn’t have to suffer anymore with her ailment and she in now with loved ones who have left us. I have so many memories of her as I was growing up like at the George Miller place, Swiftbird, and White Horse. She was so kind and caring, she would give you her last penny if you needed it. She taught me so much and was so proud of me when I graduated from college. She was proud of all us boys and our various achievements. Marty and Greg, I am sorry I can’t be there for the services. I want you both to know I love you brothers.
I’m so sorry for your loss may God carry you and comfort you all. I’m thankful I had the opportunity to have known her for the short time =) she had a beautiful spirit and smile. God bless

My condolence to Marty and Greg and family. Ann will be deeply missed but she is with us always in Spirit. My prayers are with you at this time of your loss.
We are so sorry for your loss. May the God of all comfort, Jehovah, look after you during this most difficult time. In the book of Revelation 21:3,4 there is a beautiful promise he gives where he says that soon will come a time when death, mourning, and tears will be no more. May thoughts and scriptures like this be of comfort to you during this most difficult time.
