On April 16, 2008, Carol Arlene Kluthe, surrounded by her family, was called home by God from the Hand County Memorial Hospital. Visitation was Friday April 18 at the Rembold Funeral Home in St. Lawrence from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service. Funeral service was at 10:00 a.m. Saturday April 19 at the First Presbyterian Church in Miller with Rev. Brian Jones officiating. Burial was at Ashton Cemetery, Ashton, SD.

?Christmas Carol? was born on December 25, 1924, to Charles and Martha Kopplin on a farm near Tulare. Carol attended and graduated from Redfield High School in 1942. Upon graduation, she worked at Parsons Hardware, Ben Franklin and eventually as a parts person for an automobile dealership in Redfield where she met Garth Zeigler. They married on December 31, 1948. Together, they operated Zeigler Motor Company in Miller until his death on June 17, 1970. Unto this marriage, five children were born. Linda (Gregg) Holtz, Belle Fourche; Steve (Linda) Zeigler, Miller; Jeanie Zeigler, Austin, Texas; Judy (Ken) Grunewaldt, Pierre and Ron (Sue) Zeigler, Rochester, Minnesota.

On November 14, 1970, Carol married Les Winsell. Together, they operated the Hi-Lite Bar and Steakhouse. Les passed away in November of 1980. In February, 1985, Carol married Kenny Speirs. Kenny passed away in May of 1988. Carol married Ed Kluthe January 26, 1996.

Carol had a zest for life. Always one ready for a new adventure, Carol spent her life filled with fun, including her hobbies of golfing, traveling, singing, walking and playing cards. She was very close to her children, not only as a mother, but as their best friend.

Carol was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Church Choir and United Presbyterian Women for 60 years. She served her community including serving as a Girl Scout leader for many years and organizer of the Junior Golf League. Carol was very active in the Miller Country Club, was a past women?s club champion and a member of the Hole-in-One Club from a shot in 1984. Spending time at the Senior Citizen?s Center also brought Carol great pleasure.

Carol is survived by Ed Kluthe; her children; her step-son, Richard (Judy) Zeigler, Palm Desert, CA; 12 grandchildren ? Perry Zeigler, Angela Wolter, Amber Jones, Garrett Holtz, Heath Zeigler, Jeff Zeigler, Matthew (Todd) Zeigler, Carmen Swartz, Kim Grunewaldt, Brett Grunewaldt, Jared Zeigler, Stephanie Zeigler; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sylvia Steinhauser, Redfield; one sister-in-law, Harriett Kopplin, Miller; many special nieces and nephews; special family friend Hattie Cherland, Miller; and 11 step-children and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, two brothers, Milton and Lester, and two sisters, Mildred and Vera.
